BMI system?
Question:
Answers:
yes the bmi system is completly flawed. it was developed over a hundred years ago and only brings your height and weight into consideration. Remember muscle weighs more than fat. Would you consider Hulk Hogan, Brad Pitt, or arnold swarzenneger fat? according to BMI, these men are either obese or morbedly obese.
The best way to figure out if you are over weight is to go to a gym, or health centre, and get a bio electrical impedance test done. They put a cuff on your arm and it projects a laser through your blood stream and can determine how much muscle you have and how much fat you have. you dont even feel anything when they do it
You're about 29 on the BMI index calculator. To be on the healthier range, the max is 24.9 so that means, you're about 25 pounds overweight. A healthy weight to the max is 145. The BMI system calculates the ratio of the height to the weight. It's pretty accurate although it might not be so accurate if a really buff guy is compared to a fat guy...being that the buff guy weighs 300 pounds and the fat guy weights 300 pounds...now that's a different case.
The BMI is flawed in that it doesn't take into account muscle mass beyond a certain amoutn. But you can measure your bodyfat to get a good idea of how you are doing. This website can help if you have the proper equipment to measure yourself:
