After weight loss, what health risk do you run? (Long, other questions)?

Question:
Before I get started with my question, I guess I should give some background (its needed heh). I am turning 29 this month, and im extremely overweight. Around 500 pounds, however i'm 6'7 so I can still get around with a bit of back pain. I have a severe anxiety issue that has kept me in the house for a few years, which of course lead to depression, which lead to huge weight gain. Over the past year though to their credit my doctors got my medication lined out and my anxiety has gotten to the point I have no trouble going out anymore. im ready to rejoin society, and get back to work (Im currently unable to work).

.For the past month I have cut my food take in half, work out in house a bit (Its like 100 degrees everyday out here). However, im in such extremely bad shape im really worried about my heart. I'm afraid while working out im going to fall over dead at any point. I figure though my tolerance will go up and it has, but still im worried. I worked as a furniture mover from 14 to 23, ate as bad as I do now, but the job kept the weight off (275 range but was built great, without bragging heh). When I ended up inside for these past few years the gain exploded.

Ok now for the questions

1. Have I already done permanent damage to myself? Far as I know I don't suffer from any illness (aka my sugar is fine). For example, if I got down to 275 pounds (which I would be extremely happy with, I am 6'7 and extremely broad) am I still going to run a higher risk of dropping over dead from working hard (manual labor) or say jogging for a few miles. I know that I will have much less of a chance than doing nothing at all, but would like to know what I can expect. I'm not sure of the physical risk one runs after being as large as myself then dropping the weight. This question is mostly around my heart more so than anything else.

2. Is there any good tips how I could monitor my heart rate or something so I can be assured im not overdoing it. It doesnt take much at all for my heart to pound fast and me go out of breath. Is there a device or something I could put on my wrist I can keep track of during work out? Can I keep track it myself via counting, and what should that rate of beatting be?

Anyhow those are the questions, they been kinda bothering me. As I said I have anxiety and honestly im pretty worried im going to give myself a heart attack working out so hard now, or later when I go back to work if I do get the weight down to where I want. I got a degree now (yay online degrees) so hopefully wont have to return to physical labor. I quit smoking, so I know I can do this :)

Anyhow any help/advice would be great.

Welcome Back To Life!
There are many heart monitors out there. Included here is one link to get you started. One of the main things is to set small goals for each thing, weight loss, cutting back on foods, exercise etc. You want to start small and as you acheive each goal, set a a new higher one. This is done so you dont get overwhelmed and give up. It is also boosts the ego when you accomplish these goals you have set. Additionally, it is probably best that while your body adjusts to all the changes youre putting it through, you dont go full bore on the exercise! You really need to see a Doctor so he can advise you on the exercise, check out your heart and maybe give you some healthy eating tips, do a basic blood test. Share with him what youre working on and let him monitor you on ocassion just to be safe. You may want to start with some low impact exercise. Something like swimming if available is very good for you, doesnt cause so much stress on your body especially when you arent used to it. Try walking as many times a week as you can. As each day/week passes and you acheive each daily goal with how far you walk and how fast you walk, increase your goals and push yourself just a little harder. With eating I think it is commendable that you are making such great strides! You may however get discouraged if you dont see as fast results as you would like or you may be too hungry cutting out that much food and go back to eating like before! You dont want to SHOCK your system to severly all at once. Most people may start with just cutting down their portions of food at each meal, but will still go back for seconds. The next step after a week or two they would remain on the cut back portions but eliminate the second servings. The next step they may cut out deserts and find other natural foods to satisfy the sweet cravings. Then one might eliminate sodas and find a different satisfying drink instead. Most importantly, you need to drink LOTS & LOTS of water. Exercise helps you out in many ways! If you start slow and work your way up in your goals, as with the eating, it wont put so much stress on your body! As you shape up, you should notice a change in how you feel physically and MENTALLY. Exercise is good for the soul! It is awesome you are reaching managable levels with anxiety. I have sufferred spells of this to the extreme and I found talking walks and using different routes not only helped with weight but also I would take notice of nature, new business, new homes going in and have a little reprieve of things that kept me emotionally disabled. Quiting smoking was an awesome start! It does cause many to gain weight. But your body is already recovering from the stop of nicotine! I dont know that you necessarily have caused perment damage to yuor body from all these things, but in any respect, you are doing a wonderful thing by trying to get healthy now and certainly may prevent other illnesses in the future because of your efforts. Keep strong. We're rooting for you! I wish I had it in me to do the same right now!
wow i am really sorry um i think you already did damage but you can get your artories cleaned out and you will have a better chance of living
I've heard that bieng that overweight can cause permanent damage, but I've also heard that others are fine. I think what you really need to do is a see a doctor, and have him/her help outline a diet and workout plan for you. If you overdue yoru exercise, it is possible that you can have a heart attack or heart failure, and it's important that a doctor or some type of program monitors you until you drop lower.

I'm not sure how tall you are, but 275 lbs still seems a bit too much to me, but that's something yo uhave to decide with the doctor. One goal at a time!

Another thing to note is that when you do lose the weight, you are going to have saggy, lose skin because your skin will have stretched out. It's important that a personal trainer or somebod you know sets you up on a good workout routine to help to try to prevent this. You may not be able to, so a lot of people who lose that much weight get surgery once they've reached their goal weight to get rid of the excess skin.

Congrats to you for bieng so motivated and making a change in your life.
Considering your level of obesity and potential health issues, your questions should really be directed to your doctor as well as advice on an appropriate eating plan and exercise plan.

There should be no reason you cannot live a "natural" lifespan if you start taking care of yourself barring any health issues you had prior to gaining the weight or an damage that might have been done due to the weight or the method you've chosen to lose it.

Best of luck getting to a healthy size and staying there and improving your quality of life...please speak to your doctor re: your concerns and the best way for you to achieve the size and fitness level you desire. ☺
Eat only when hungry and not more than thrice a day. Nothing other than water in between. Include plenty of uncooked vegetables and fruits in each meal, preferably 50%. Chew each morsel at least 32 times to activate ur body to generate signals of hunger/fullness. Obey these signals.

Take light exercises and brisk walks regularly preferably twice a day.

U will achieve what u have not even dreamt and that too in a reasonable time. Do not be in a hurry. It is however to be noted that one cannot change the shape or size of different parts of the body.
