How to keep weight down, and stop gaining more weight?

Question:
I am 18 years old, and about 5 feet 8 inches tall. I am not terribly overweight, but I have more weight on me then I would like. I kept my weight down at 168 for a while, and then went up to 180 for a while. Today I stepped on the scale, and I was at 190. What can I do besides excersise, to go back down to 168 pounds? I do like to lift weights, and work my beiseps.

Answers:
in case u didn't know, which not eferyone does, but muscle weighs more then fat. if you onl work out, u will lower your fat %, but eventually gain weight due to ur rise in muscle %. so losing weight is not what u want, u want to lower your fat %. for that, do light, but long amounts of excersize, proper dieting, and pacience. there is no overnight cure.
if you lift weights your a going to weight more, since you are building body mass, just excerice and have a balanced diet
diet and exercise
