Heard a cracking sound from my knee cap while riding an upright bike. Pls. share your theories.?

Question:
Did cardio (60m.) with the elliptical machine at the gym. Used the upright bike right after. Heard a cracking sound from my knee while using the bike. I slowed down my speed. I really wasn't speeding. I mainly used the bike to cruise for 15-20m. It's not my cardio workout! FYI, I have a loose knee cap in the first place. It's been a few days now & my knee is not quite the same before this happened. It's not bad but I'm concerned. I had surgeries on that knee more than 9yrs.ago. The day after the incident, I felt discomfort. The 2nd day felt discomfort again. Could I have slightly strained my loose knee cap? Has any of you have the same experience? Pls. share your thoughts. Serious replies only! I will see my physiotherapist in 5 days. Thx.

Answers:
im sorry to say this, but it might just be psychological. it happens all the the, u think somethings wrong and ur body instantly tells u its wrong. not trying to be offensive

but that aside, yeah, i think u should have a checkup since you had surgery on it 9yrs ago. if i knew wat surgery u had i cld help u. there is a possibility u strained it...i dont really suggest this considering u mite b injured but lay the leg down flat on da floor n try wobbling it around. CAUTION if somethings wrong u might just make it worse.so i dont suggest it. i just suggest, dont stress ur leg-area-ish muscles for the next 5 days until u go to ur physiotherapist
It could have been stretching of the cartalage.
See the doc in stead.
If you already have a "loose knee cap"...meaning it does not tend to articulate with the end of the femur in a normal fashion, this in itself may be the cause of your clicking. Problems with knee cap tracking are usually related strength deficits of the vastus medialus obliques of the quadriceps muscle, structural anomalies and/or tight iliotibial band or lateral retinaculum (tissues on the side of the knee).

However, know that "cracking" of the knee is common and usually a benign thing. Yet, since you are having pain, the knee cap very well could be the source of the problem. This is otherwise known as patellofemoral syndrome.

Other considerations include a meniscal tear or other ligamentous tear.
