Is whole wheat bread REALLY that much better for you than white bread?
Question:
Answers:
Less processed sugar and more fiber is better for your system in a lot of ways, but I doubt JUST switching to whole grain would be enough to cause noticeable weight loss.
I like the taste and texture of whole grain vs. white, but that's just me.
Yes and no.
Wheat products are better for you because they are high in fiber. High fiber foods = fills you up longer = eat less.
Not to mention high-fiber foods help the digestive system.
They say fiber is in whole wheat but I think this was started because no one was buying the whole wheat and they had lots to sell.
Yes whole wheat is better than white. White has had all of its nutrients taken from it. Whole wheat products, on the other hand contain all the vitamins and nutrients of the grain. As to weight loss I'm going to refer you to the food pyramid@ www.foodpyramid.gov. If you eat from the low end of the pyramid you should lose weight and you will be much more balanced in your eating approach compared with the low carb diets.
Whole-grain products also contain more micro-nutrients than bleached-flour products. However, if you continue to eat the same amount of them, your weight will not be affected.
As for the "low-carb lifestyle", keep in mind that this is not eliminating all carbs from the diet, just reducing them so as to reduce your intake of calorie-generating foods. There is nothing unhealthy about lowering your carb intake to a healthy level, especially if you reduce your sugar intake to a minimum.
Consumer Reports recently rated the Volumetrics Eating Plan as the best approach to weight-loss dieting. Simply put, for each food, calculate the caloric density by dividing the number of calories in a serving by the weight of the serving. Then you focus your attention on eating more low-density foods than high-density ones. They fill you up sooner, so your calorie intake drops, and you lose weight. You can continue the plan indefinitely (after you get to your desired weight, just add a few high density foods to maintain it), so this diet has a good chance to keep you at your desired weight once you get there. There is a book available, "The Volumetrics Eating Plan", published this year.
You may not lose weight by shifting to whole grain bread, but you will be getting the nutrients in their natural form, ie the B vitamins and fiber that will help your body function better. The vitamins in bleached white flour are stripped out, and then synthetic ones are added. There is a line of bread called Ezekiel bread made from sprouted grains that is organic, gluten free, and comes in different varieties
Yes, it's better because the whole grain fiber helps to make you feel full and keeps your plumbing in order if you know what I mean. The better fiber in whole wheat bread also helps your body process carbs more efficiently and that helps to keep your blood sugar steady which in turn gives you a nice steady energy source all day so you won't have the ups and downs. Try the Nature's Own double fiber whole wheat bread, it's nice and soft, it doesn't taste like cardboard and it doesn't cost as much as some of those fancy wheat breads that don't even tast good ! It's got a purple label on it, and most major grocery chains carry it, I buy it at Wal Mart. The pasta on the other hand, I try to stay away from because is has soooo many carbs and the whole wheat ones that I have tried aren't that tasty to me. But pasta is cheap so if you are exercising and you can burn off the pasta carbs, try different ones til you find one you like. I don't necessarily practice the low carb lifestyle, but I have a desk job that I am at for 12 hours a day so I know my body doesn't need a bunch of carbs. Recucing sugar carbs and adding more whole wheat and good fiber to your diet will help you lose weight just by helping your body's metabolism work more efficiently, so just add some daily walks and lots of friuts/veggies and water, and YES you will lose weight !
No but u will be healthier.
Eat only when hungry and not more than thrice a day. Nothing other than water in between. Include plenty of uncooked vegetables and fruits in each meal, preferably 50%. Chew each morsel at least 32 times to activate ur body to generate signals of hunger/fullness. Obey these signals.
Take light exercises and brisk walks regularly preferably twice a day.
U will achieve what u have not even dreamt and that too in a reasonable time. Do not be in a hurry. It is however to be noted that one cannot change the shape or size of different parts of the body.
