My Dad needs to exercsize but can't, please help!?


Question:
My Dad is kinda over weight and I'm worried about him. He has artheritis (sp?) in both knees (it's really bad) and some heart problem (sorry i don't know exactly what it is).

I want him to exersize to loose weight because then maybe his knees wouldn't hurt so bad and he'd be healthier. But do to his health issues he can't exersize easily.

Do you guys have any ideas of easy exersizes to do at home? What else can he do? Please help! Do you guys know of any site that has exersizes for people with artheritis (sp?) ? Please help!

Swimming won't hurt the knees, but might be too much for him in the beginning. There are other exercises that he can do in the pool to ease in to it.

Also, cycling is low impact. And if he is hesitant to get out on the roads he can go to spin classes at a gym.
Try walking that can help loose weight but you need to do a lot of it. Being old and all he probably has enough spare time to fit it in

The best exercise for arthritis is swimming. Swimming is low impact and effective. He can find a local school pool or YMCA. They usually offer aqua aerobics or free swim times. He does not need to be a great swimmer. As long as he moves in the water, he will get cardio and treatment for his arthritis.
He can walk around the block a few times a day
he doesnt need exercise he needs a diet. once he gets down to a healthy weight. he can exercise more freely.
Swimming might be easier on his knees and its also very good exercise. I'd suggest it to him. If you don't have access to a pool, join the Y or a gym, go to a public pool or maybe ask to use a friends pool. There are also hotels that have pools. If you offer to pay to use the pool many times they will consider it. Its worth a shot. Good luck.
