Can you do too many sit ups?

Question:
I recently started doing sit ups, I do about 200 to 300 during the day in sets of 50. I know that with weights you should leave a day to a day and a half after to let the muscle grow, is this the same with sit ups?
Also, the sit ups I do are bringing your left elbow to right knee and then right elbow to left knee and so on . Are these effective? Can anyone suggest anything better please?
Thanks

Answers:
You can do too many and this can result in overtraining and therefore not getting the results you want or worse still an over use injury.
The style of sit up you are doing will aslo be working the obliques. What is it you are trying to acheive? If you want a six pack you need to reduce your bodyfat. You can do this with a combination of strength and cardio training. The cardio training burns calories and the strength training raises your metabolism aloowing you to burn caloreis more effectively, even when at rest.
Sounds like a helluva lot to me-and you ARE supposed to let muscles REST for a day before working them again.
*Body builders work a different area each day. Torso/arms one day legs, butt, the next.
Get a Muscle & Fitness mag and read up on it.Also tells you HOW to eat to build more muscle
Good luck Tarzan
depends on what part of your stomach u are trying to work out, for example, your lower belly, instead of pulling your body, lift your legs in a crunch, really affective
Get the ab lounge. IT WORKS!
