If you can still hear the motor turning when your standing on the stopped belt then your belt tension is too low and needs to be tightened.
Most treadmill have screws to adjust belt tension but it can be tricky because they are also used for alignment.
are u fat?
you are weighing it down, maybe try running on a side walk or something to shed those extra lbs, then get on it and see it go.
Do you clip on the Emergency stop on your belt?? you might be Pulling it while you run.causing the treadmill to stop. try it without using the Emergency tab.
The motor is going out. when your standing on the treadmill you putting a lot of down pressure on the conveyer belt. if its an older machine the motor may be failing and isnt strong enough to turn as it should any longer... or maybe the linkage is warn out. i had to replace the motor in mine when the same thing happened to my gf's. cost about 100 bucks to have it done. Call the manufactuer of the machine and tell them whats going on, and they will fix it.
Most treadmills have a weight limit of 350 pounds. If you are heavier than that, it could be causing it to stop. If you are not that heavy, it must be a cheap piece of junk. You might like to try the walk in place tapes or DVDs. You can do a one mile, and work up to the two and then the three mile tape.
