Does this tick you off too?
Question:
i'm a very small girl and always have been (except after my dad died when i ate myself into oblivion to feel better)...my mom is 5 foot 80lbs, my grandmother is 5'2'' 110lbs my dad was barely 5'8 and i'm 5'1'' 100lbs.we all have very light bones adn are very obviously petite people...no one looks boney or unhealthy, just small and small statured...
but i feel like more and more i (and naturally small girls like me) are getting lumped into a catagory that we're anorexic and weight obsessed.my roommates this year made comments constantly like "your looking really thin, are you anorexic? you should eat more, i'm just concerned.".not only is that hurtful but its a double standard...if i would have said to them "hey your looking kinda chunky, why dont you skip that last slice of pizza, i'm just concerned" i would have been in deep crap and called a b*tch...
grr!!! why is this double standard ok??
Answers:
Because overweight people are trying to make naturally thin people fat like them so they feel better. I'm overweight, and make a point never to do that to anybody. Mostly because its not my business what other people do with their bodies.
Double standards SUCK!
Yeah, anorexics do give petite people a bad rap. dont feel bad, I like the fat and pizza comment, that is great!! I get the same thing for my eating habits, I workout daily and eat only protein and light carbs, my wife thinks I have an eating disorder. I just don't eat fat, I don't need it in my body when im try to keep it off my body.
blame the media
just tell the to f-off or explain to them how annoying it is
most of my family is like that and I know where you're coming from. I never got comments like that- I was a gymnast, and now I run long-distance so I ended up being very muscular and heavier than my female relatives. All of my cousins and aunts are just like you. I don't know you, so I urge you to check with a doctor to make sure you're healthy. I don't want to endorse anorexia or any eating disorder. If you know you are healthy, then just forget about the morons making stupid comments.
It can be very annoying at times, but as long as you're healthy and your doctor says that you're fine, try not to think too much about it. It'll never stop- my grandmother still gets comments like that from her neighbors. Her answer: "well, I'm 80, and I still look good in a bikini, so it's worth it"
I know .. you're SOO right. I'm 5'9'', 120lbs and I get called anorexic too. It's just jealousy ...
as for the comments, why don't you tell them?
just say that it feels as rude for someone skinny to be called anorexic as it does someone fat to be called chunky.
it's really none of their business ...
Yes I do feel your pain. However, in saying so, I am being the biggest hypocrite in the world. I was naturally petite but got it in my head I was something else, so now my friends have all rights to be concerned after my last brush with anorexia.
Perhaps you can tell your roommate ever so nicely that you appreciate her concern but you really are OK and it is hurtul when she pigeonholes you into a media stereotype. Or you can do a whole drama thing and break down into tears and sob about how you really want t*ts and *** but can't have them and how unfair the world is. Or you can just keep it all in and snap at them one day.
Double standards are NOT OK.
its not. but at least your roommates are concerned for you. and they care about you. but your right its not right.
