I'm 5'6 and weigh 170. I want to start over...how long do you think it will take me to lose 50 pounds?

Im moving in with my boyfriend(iv recently GAINED all of this weight 45 pounds) i would like to get down to 120 with a strict regimen. If i do so...roughly how long do you think it will take? ANY PERSONAL EXPERIENCES GREATLY APPRECIATED!! Ill give the most points possible, i would just really like to get an estimate date to look foward to to...because I believe it would motivate me!! thanks! :)

Hi hon. I'm exactly in the same situation...except I have 9 lbs on you. I'm 5'6 and I weigh 179. I'm working with a personal trainer, doing at least 30 minutes of cardio 4 times per week and weight training 3 times per week.

A healthy weight loss goal is about 2 lbs per week. Based on that average, you are looking at approximately 6 and a half months to reach your goal.

Remember, as you build muscle, you may not see the scale move as quickly as you are hoping for...because muscle weighs more than fat.

Also, please evaluate your goal. 120 for a 5'6 female is on the low end of normal. If you are fine boned, 120 might work for you...but a more reasonable and healthy goal is 135.

You shouldn't lose over 3 pounds a week to stay healthy. There are faster ways to lose more weight but you will gain it right back once you get off the diet. So best way is lose it slow and as you're losing change your eating habits to a more healthy diet with less fast foods and fats. AND exercise. walk, ride your bike. hike, swim, do fun things that require you to exercise.
It will be difficult to say how long you would take to lose 50 pounds. Everyone's body is made differently and also a lot depends on your metabolic rate and what you eat or do and how disciplined you are.

Definitely, you need to watch what you eat. Losing weight is all about what you eat and what you expend. Cut down on your intake of processed foods and switch to a more healthy diet emphasizing vegetables and fruits.

At the same time, pick up a sport that you like. It can be jogging, tennis, martial arts, yoga, etc. Exercise about 3 to 4 times a week for at least 30 minutes each session. Here are more ideas about what you can do in terms of fitness
