I am starting a new diet because I want to lose weight for year 9, how much weight do you think I would...?
Question:
Here is what I am going to do twice every week (this diet was created by the British Heart Foundation)...
Day 1:
B - Half a grapefruit (no sugar), 1 slice of toast & 2tsp of peanut butter.
L - 4oz of tuna & 1 slice of toast.
D - 2 slices of any cold meat, 1 cup of green beans, 4oz beetroot, 1 small apple & 4oz ice cream.
Day 2:
B - 1 egg, 1 slice of toast & half a banana.
L - 4oz cottage cheese & 5 saltine crackers
D - 2 hot dogs, 4oz broccoli, 2oz carrots, half a banana, 4oz vanilla ice cream.
Day 3:
B - 5 saltine crackers, 1 slice of cheddar cheese, 1 small apple.
L - 1 hard boiled egg & 1 slice of toast.
D - 4oz tuna, 4oz beetroot, 4oz broccoli, half a melon, 4oz vanilla ice cream.
I was thinking about doing 250 skips a day (on a skipping rope), doing stretching exercises every night and morning & going swimming about 2 - 3 times a week doing roughly 20 lengths.
(I know it is a lot but I am basing most of summer on losing weight.)
Answers:
plenty of walking
I lost 15lbs in 6 weeks on a similar diet
as ambitious as this is u are ONLY gonna be a freshman(9th grade). ur still growing, meaning that as long as u eat a nutritious balanced diet and exercise regularly the weight will come off as u continue to grow.
depends how much you eat the other days of the week! cos i mean those 3 days u could lose quite a bit but if the rest of the week u go back to normal and all that then u will put it back on, so no point of doing those three days if you know wot i mean!
why dont u stick to a low calorie diet for a week and see how much u lose and then take it from there for the next week!?
Don't go mad on dieting- I started a new school- in Year 9 last year- everyone is nervous and nobody judges you on your weight but good luck anyway. Remember- it doesn't matter what other people think- if they don't like you they aren't worth it!
I think you're doing great if you follow this diet plan throughout the whole week.. you will probably lose 20lbs in 2 weeks alone and maybe even more every week after. Good Luck to you!
Forget all of this regimental stuff and just stop eating - bread, potatoes, crisps, rice, pasta, cakes and biscuits and basically all the heavy carbohydrates. The weight will fall off with no effort.
year 9?! isn't that about 14! your young! spend ur summer having fun and eating cake and ice cream! unless ur obese in which case u probably wouldnt be putting this up on the web. real woman have curves! and ur probably still growing!
I think it is good..and to keep your metabolism up eat more small meals not a couple big ones. have a cut off time at night/a couple hours before bed (and dinner should really not be big since most people sit and are inactive after dinner. and exercise as you know is a key factor to burn calories and keep your metabolism high.
You're determination alone is great, you're really set out to lose weight and you have everything planned, which is brilliant!
Id say you would lose up to 20 pounds, im not quite sure, but i know from experience by eating similar foods to what you have listed i lost 14 pounds in two weeks, so if you stick to it really well id say you would lose 20 pounds!
best of luck!!
should you be dieting at your age? if you are officially overweight i.e. if your doctor has said you should lose weight perhaps you'd be better off asking your doctor to refer you to a dietician or nutritionist - please be careful
Kati, please talk to your parents or your GP before you start this diet. If you are going to start Year 9 in September, that makes you about 12 or 13, yes? (Please excuse my maths).
As a teenager who is still growing, you NEED far more calories than an adult. Your nutritional needs are therefore very different to an adults, and this diet could leave you feeling weak or even make you unhealthy. You need to talk to your doctor to make sure he or she gives you a diet that is suitable for your needs. Although this looks like a reasonably well-rounded diet, the British Heart Foundation may have intended it for a specific purpose, such as for people with heart problems.
A 'normal' amount of weight to lose on a diet is 1 or 2lbs a week. Any more than this is dangerous. Again, this is advice designed for adults, so you need to talk to your doctor to find out what the safe guidelines are for someone your age.
Finally, what makes you think you are fat? Good, healthy food and excercise are both great ideas, but please don't go too far, or let other people make you feel bad about the way you look. I'm sure you are beautiful.
Can I ask how much you weigh?
Sounds very healthy, but you ideally need some more carbohydrates in there. Wholemeal pasta rather than white is really good. Much less calories.
I found counting calories most effective, I stuck to 1200 a day and lost quite a bit.
Be careful, I dont know how much you weigh but at your age you must be very active anyway
Love yourself the way you are :)
hotdogs?Ice cream? The rest is great but why waste some of your intake on fatty hotdogs and ice cream?
Just add 2 L of water a day.
It's impossible to say because it depends on how heavy you are to start off with, your age and your metabolic rate. Which are all very individual things.
It is unhealthy to lose more than 2lb per week after the first couple of weeks (you can lose up to 4lb per week quite healthily when you start out). If your losing more than that you need to eat more, so monitor by weighing in at least once per week as you go along.
philley - becasue 30% of her daily calories should come from fat and at her age that's even more important.
Nutritionally the plan is fine, but it may be a bit light on calories as it looks like one which has been developed for patients recovering from a heart attack. If you can stick to it and you find your not losing too much weight too quickly then OK but if not add a couple fo snacks of fruit or a small handful of nuts between meals.
Your planned exercise is fine. I do much more than that.
i was wondering whether that ice cream every dinner was really a Heart Foundation adding on the menu or is it yours?!
ha! and the frankfurters??!! Just wondering. As for how much weight will u lose from this I don't know - it really depends on individual's body how heavy are u- the percentage of fat on your body and so on , but good luck with this nice and lovely ice cream and frankfurter diet - i may email you as i want it as well. I love it ! i could always find few pounds to drift . But joking appart, it is a healthy diet apart from the franks - so i don't see y u shouldn't lose the weight...? I think you will!
Helpful Tips for weight loss:
1)A good way to loose weight is to use a calorie counter watch
Keep to a 1,200 food intake
Add 1,200 plus 3,500 (equals one pound of fat) ...and that is the total amount of calories you need to burn each day. Its actually really easy once you start watching the numbers and it doesn't seem like work or exercise. Its just a matter of changing the way you think about loosing weight.
I use this method when i gain some pounds. The first time I did this I went from 168 to 127
2) Most people do not get enough water in their system. Water is your body's principal chemical component, comprising, on average, 60 percent of your weight. Every system in your body depends on water. For example, water flushes toxins out of vital organs, carries nutrients to your cells and provides a moist environment for ear, nose and throat tissues.
Lack of water can lead to dehydration, a condition that occurs when you don't have enough water in your body to carry out normal functions. To determine if you are getting enough water use this simple formula.. Take your weight, for example 150 pounds and divide by 2. Take your answer which is 75 lbs and change it to ounces, in this case 75 ounces. That is how many ounces of water you need a day. Your body performs mostly on water. If you make sure you get enough water everyday your body will perform at top notch and your body will no longer have the cravings of junk food. You will have a better performing body system to help you work out and feel better thru out your day.
