I am 56 pounds overweight & have a family reunion in jan 08. Do u think I can loose my excess weight by jan?

Don't aim for weightloss but go for waist loss instead. Scales lie - fact.

This is because muscle mass is more dense than fat (reason thin people sink in the swimming pool) so you can weigh exactly the same and still look slim and trim. Think of those muscle packed sprinters, their BMI tells you they are morbidly obese but where is the fat?

The trick is to cut out the junk from your diet, eat more fruit and veg, more lean meats (including steak if you want), fish etc, drink more water and try to have 6 smaller meals during the day rather than 3 big ones.

Exercise 3 times a week if you can and remember housework can count as exercise if you work up a sweat. Walking, cycling, swimming, weights work anything you enjoy that raises the heart rate and gets you breathing harder is doing you good but please see a doctor for a physical before you start anything serious.

Check out The Abs Diet at Men's Health (or Women's Health) as this is a great, simple and easy to follow plan. I've used it for a while and lost waist, toned up and feel healthier than ever.

Give yourself a reward for losing 2 inches, 4 inches or whatever around your waist and a big treat for January. A new suit or those shoes whatever to help you stay motivated.

Finally don't worry about the occasional pig out, a treat every now and then doesn't hurt

you probably won't be able to losoe 56lbs by january, however you should be able to lose 20-30lbs which will still make a huge difference.

simply cut out the junk food from your diet and any food with excessive salt and sugar.
then go to the gym or equivalent moderate to intense exercise 3 times a week.
If your family really love you, it won't matter what you look like, as long as you are healthy. For those who it would matter to, they have the problem, not you. Lose weight in your time, sensibly, and don't try "rush" diets(talk to a doctor about safe ways to lose weight).

If you are committed and very disciplined you will loose weight. However my suggestion would be to lower your target weight and don't look for quick fixes. The other thing I would suggest is to make sure your loosing the weight for yourself and not just to impress your family.

Of course you can. If you want it enough and put your mind to it you can achieve anything. You have 5 months til the beginning of January so thats about 22 weeks. If you loose just over 2lbs a week you will make it. 2 - 3lbs a week is a realistic target and loosing it gradually is much safer than loosing it too fast.
I dont know what you are eating now but make sure you eat breakfast as it speeds up your metabolism and make sure you eat regular meals as that also helps the metabolism. You dont need to cut out big food groups because that isnt good for you either. Just eat healthily - everything in moderation. And exercise 3 - 4 times a week. Pick something you will enjoy as that will help you stick at it and vary it too.

Yo may not loose 4 stone, but you will both loose some weight and improve your body tone and appearance. Keep it up for 2 years and maybe you will not only loose your 56 ponds but be healthier and keep it off!
Absolutely! I have lost 55 pounds since the end of January. I just changed the way I eat. It's a big lifestyle change, but you learn really quick. I know what I'm talking about. I am Hispanic and we eat a lot of fried food, tortillas, sopas, etc. I also started walking 6 days a week. I think if you just walk at least 3 times a week, that will do the trick. When I thought my weightloss was slowing down, I got a little harder with myself and did a diet that my doctor gave me. Good luck!
