Does anyone else agree that when Girls ask "Am i Skinny" for attention?

When I was obese (seriously obese, 18 stone, 5ft2 frame) I had a friend, who wasn't skinny, but flat stomach, healthy looking, asked me in the bathroom (as girls do) if she looks fat, I laughed so hard, I couldn't bring myself to give her an answer.

Yes, they already know if they are skinny or fat, for God's sake they have lived with themselves their whole lives, they don't need strangers telling them. Mostly it's they skinny girls that do it, they feel insecure and just want people to reassure them that they are beautiful and have a killer body.
Yes! i used to hate it in school when all the other girls would turn around and say 'i'm so fat' just for someone to tell them they weren't. I usually just used to say 'yeah you have put weight on, didnt wanna mention it!'
a few of my mates and relatives do the opposite, they are clearly sizes 6 - 10 but always moan that they are fat. they are just fishing for compliments. i'm a size 12 and very happy :-)
No not for attention but because girls and women all to some extent suffer from body dysmorphia. Most women hate some part or all of their bodies. Women compete for male attention and the way they do this is by having a better exterior than their peers.
Women always think they are inferior to or superior to other females, like in a bar - a gal will feel good if she is the youngest/slimmest in the group.. she;d feel bad if she was older or larger..
It all stems back to evolution - with women wanting to show they are unpregnant and low maintenance.. being slim is the way they do this. So when she asks am I skinny it is because how she looks is such a source of anxiety/angst and all consuming for her.
Worse in this current age where women are not just competing on a village scale but a global one and with images that are not real/artificial/perfect.

Some do, but others might just want to make sure that their friends think they look okay so they can be positive about their apperance. Which, actually is basically the same thing...
Absolutely! I am obsessed by my weight and image but NEVER ask people that question.

I've never heard a girl ask that, even the really skinny ones. I thought it was always, "Am I fat?"

Girls are raised to crave attention in a way that boys are not.
Also much attention is given to how they look rather then who they are their whole lives so you should try to see it from the view of the environment they were raised in...maybe they can't help

yeah, they do- no girl I know does this, no girl I know is attention seeking, if a girl asked this to me (bear in mind I am also a girl here) I would ignore her, she would be in my book asking a stupid question, either fishing for complements or after everyone saying "look at me" or "change the conversation to meeeeee"

basically she's just saying 'am I skinny' and meaning 'look at me!'
same with 'i'm a size 4 is that fat?' it's basically saying 'i'm skinny...practically a supermodel! compliment me!'
