The idea that you can't lose fat from specific sites IS A MYTH.
Muscles get the fat they use as fuel, from the bloodstream. Any site where your blood supply is large (dense capillary bed) can release more fat than a site where there are fewer capillaries.
Exercising a particular muscle will cause the skin to blush near the muscle. This pink colour ('erythema') is caused by extra blood. The capillary bed opens up in order to allow the heat generated by the muscle's activity to escape. Heat, and chemical signals from the muscle, will speed up the reactions (lipolysis) that convert fat from its storage form, and release it into the bloodstream. Sites with fewer capillaries, and those where the skin remains pale, will be unable to release as much fat.
Regular exercise, causing local erythema, will stimulate new capillaries to be built in the skin at that site. This extra 'capillarisation' means that more fat can be released from that site, because more blood can flow through it.
Your friend can stimulate fat release from her thighs, by using the muscles there as often as possible. Walking and gentle running, outer and inner thigh machines, and 'recumbent' cycling (the ones with the pedals out in front, instead of under you), will all work her thighs in a way that burns fat.
(heavy exercise should be avoided, because it burns sugar, making you tired and hungry)
Recumbent cycling and 'core' work (waist movements) will activate the muscles around her midriff. As well as burning fat, this will change her shape very quickly, because these muscles will tighten and 'pinch' her waist into more of an hour-glass shape. The exercises should be done daily, or more often, and gently enough to avoid fatigue.
She will need to be patient, though. Fat can only be released very slowly (a maximum of about on pound per week; any weight loss that's faster than this, happens because muscle or water is being removed). Think in terms of months and years, rather than days and weeks.
Speak to the doctor becuase medical problems could develop if you dont inform your doctor.
there are no easy ways of losing fat from the stomach and thighs, sorry but thats the reality. exercise is the only way.

I am sad to say that unless your friend develops hyperthriodism, there is not way she can sit at home and loss weight unless she intends to starve herself all day. Even if she does starve herself, that weight is all gonna come back and double the amount.
So if you really want to help your friend, get her out of her house and more active. GO for runs together, to the gym together, dance for an hr each day or simply walk. Any form os physical activity will help in buring fats but of course it has to be of the right intensity. As I always say, if your ain't breathing hard you ain't working out.
Hiya, Im a fitness instructor and hope I can give you a few little bits of advice for your friend.
Contrary to popular belief its NOT possible to isolate and loose weight from specific spots. We need to look at our food intake and calorific needs (2000-2500 per day). Making small but permanent changes to lifestyle is the key. CUt down on sugar and fat and increase activities. Doing cardio vascular exercise is a great way to burn calories, jogging, skpping, swiming, bike rides, walks, dancing. Also going to aerobic classes can be fun. Find things that can be enjoyed and maintained and built up on.
All the best..
