Does fat burn before muscle breakdown in cardio ?

Question:
Its a well know fact that muscle breaks down to make the body more efficient during strenuous cardio sessions. I was wondering; does your body burn off all fat/energy sources before it begins to use the muscle or does it go straight for the muscle?

Answers:
No your body will use carbohydrates for energy before anything else, then once all the carbs are gone from your blood your body burns fat. After a while yes your body will turn to muscle for energy but only after a long time (over 45 minutes) of cardio.

Cardio will ALWAYS burn off your fat first. That's what fat really is..it's stored surplus energy.. ..although crude and unhealthy. As for muscle breaking...cardio doesn't break down your muscles, but you muscles will get smaller because they no longer need to be BIG and STRONG. Therefore, your muscles will shrink to normal size so that they can last longer during extended cardio. The only way your body could even canibolize muscle is if you starve yourself...it will eat the fats first, and then the muscle. I hope this helps.
you know the Atkins diet?
eat fat and protein and no carbs for extremists, well your body uses carbs first, stored carbs/fat second for energy, and then starts to breakdown proteins for energy, that is why ketosis is a big concern for Atkins diets.

there is a simple urine test to check you body for ketosis (breakdown of proteins)

If you are doing a low carb diet there is a bigger chance for this to happen.

atkins dieters are lazy and ussually do not work out and have flabby body's and high cholestrol.
When you exercise your body has three sources for enegry. The liver stores of sugar (glycogen ), fat stores (adipose tissue) and muscle. When you exercise the liver stores are used first because they are the most readily accessible. Then your body turns to fats stores. Your brain cannot use fat for energy, so it reserves sugar for itself and requires the rest of your to burn fat. Fat can produce more energy overall than sugar so your working muscles use fat to get the most bang for the buck. As your muscle mass grows you can burn increasing amounts of body fat. Your body only turns to muscle in conditions of starvation (after 2-3 days) or severe lack of protein intake. Hope this helps.
