(ANS) First of all if you fast, or if you starve yourself the bodies survival instincts kick in. If you don't eat the body will try and get calories from else where by burning stored fats in order that your vital organs can function as best as possible until the body thinks its no longer at risk. This isn't a good way to loose weight and it does have risks.
**If you eat low calorie food/s and a large amount of it, the body may well still feel unsatisfied (emotionally ) and may still no get enough calories for daily requirements. Yes! the result would still be weight loss but once again this is a very poor approach to loosing weight.
**The best way to loose weight is too do it, VERY slowly. Why? because loosing weight slowly & gradually over a prolonger period of time means the body has a chance to adjust itself and doesn't feel under threat. Its also a question of changing what could be a life times habits of eating the wrong foods or comfort eating or over eating. Any change in diet should be done gently and in addition to diet change you would need to built in exercising as well in order to burn up calories.
Summary,
There is no real substitute for changing the diet and a good healthy balanced daily diet (not over eating at each meal) and regular weekly exercising. This is the way to loose weight in a slow and sustained way over time.
