before gettign down to detail exercises start gradually.. don't do a sudden shock to the system.. especially if you have been fairly idel for a long time.
consider doing some walking.. current reports suggest that walking for say 30 minutes 3..4 times a week will have a good impact on your weight and blood pressure. do a bit more walking... don't take the lift or escalator if you can. swimming is a good exercise. I found doing as much swimming as possible then doing a couple of extra lengths worked well.. in a very short time I was doing dramatically more.. around 2..4 lengths extra every 2..3 days
you don't necessarily need to join a gym or anything like that.. it works well for some people, but not necessarily all.
toning is usually using specific exercises to develop muscles.. but the muscles need to be stripped of the outer layer of blubber for that to pay off.
Id avoid things like running (at least untill you are reasonably fit). take it slow, set yourself reasonable and acheiveable targets. dont beat yourself up if you dont reach them.. keep plugging away.
most of all make your exercise fun.. that way round you'll keep doing it.. if its not fun you wont.
it can take some 4..6 weeks to see a significant change so stick at it
take it in small steps, dont be too upset if you initially start to put on weight.. blubber ways less than muscle, and you may need to develop muscle if you have been especially idle.
and it should go without saying consider what you eat carefully...
