Is 5'5, and 98-100 pounds anorexic?

Question:
my 2 best friends call me anorexic all the time and i hate it! i eat so much...healthy things..and i exercise

is my weight like TOO skinny?!?! on the verge of being anorexic?

Answers:
NO. Anorexia is an eating disorder. It's good that you eat healthy things--it will prepare you for a healthier future. Exercise doesn't mean that you're trying to keep the pounds off either. I got called anorexic all the time in Junior/Middle School--and am still skinny, but people know not to say "You're so skinny" when I retort "Do you tell heavy people that they're fat?".

You should gain weight if that's possible. BUT, some people just have fast metabolism at certain ages. It'll slow down in your 40s if that is your case. If you can gain the pounds, then do. Some people though are naturally skinny.

Here are symptoms for anorexia. It is a mental disorder (as widely know, as well as an eating disorder). Just because you weigh that much doesn't label you as such unless you have this disease. It's like saying a person who decides to eat a lot at certain times, like lunch or dinner is bulimic--just because they eat a lot. Symptoms listed below curtesy of Wikipedia.

To be diagnosed as having anorexia nervosa, according to the DSM-IV-TR, a person must display:

Refusal to maintain body weight at or above a minimally normal weight for age and height (e.g., weight loss leading to maintenance of body weight less than 85% of that expected; or failure to make expected weight gain during period of growth, leading to body weight less than 85% of that expected).
Intense fear of gaining weight or becoming fat.
Disturbance in the way in which one's body weight or shape is experienced, undue influence of body weight or shape on self-evaluation, or denial of the seriousness of the current low body weight.
In postmenarcheal, premenopausal females (women who have had their first menstrual period but have not yet gone through menopause), amenorrhea (the absence of at least three consecutive menstrual cycles).
Or other eating related disorders.
Furthermore, the DSM-IV-TR specifies two subtypes:

Restricting Type: during the current episode of anorexia nervosa, the person has not regularly engaged in binge-eating or purging behavior (that is, self-induced vomiting, over-exercise or the misuse of laxatives, diuretics, or enemas)
Binge-Eating Type or Purging Type: during the current episode of anorexia nervosa, the person has regularly engaged in binge-eating OR purging behavior (that is, self-induced vomiting, over-exercise or the misuse of laxatives, diuretics, or enemas).
I think so, i agree with your Friends, i look at it like this if i can see your bones to myself and other guys that's a big turn off, and its very unhealthy for your body.
Hun, you really need to gain some weight. I'm 5'5 and 112 and my friends call me anorexic! It depends on how old you are but even if you are young you need to gain weight.
No im 5'5 and 100 pounds and my friends call me anerexic all the time, too. And I eat all the time but I just don't really gain weight so you aren't don't worry about it.
Hey. I am the same height and weight, and consider myself a healthy weight. It's not so much how much you weigh but how you feel. I'm vegetarian, eat healthy foods and walk everyday. I think just enjoy it, eat all that you want while you can.
You're weight doesn't dictate whether or not you are anorexic. Your eating habits do.
I am like you, and those comments bother me, too. If you eat healthy and you don't think you are fat or starve yourself, and you don't over exercise, then you are fine. Everyone is made differently and some people have smaller bone structure. Stay confident, and you know the truth so don't worry about others comments.
Your BMI is a bit low, but that could just be your body type. As for being anorexic, thats an disorder not something you choose to be.

As long as you when and because your hungery and stop when your full then your fine.

Also heres a bmi chart, im sure you've seen something like it before in PE

You may be really skinny, but not anorexic. Anorexia is defined as a mental condition where someone refuses to maintain a healthy body weight. Based on what you say, you eat normally. Just because your skinny doesn't mean you're anorexic or on the verge of being anorexic, you have to deliberately starve yourself to be anorexic.

As long as you're healthy, there's really no need to worry.

Good luck :)
Acorrding to this site http://www.healthnetwork.com.au/weight-l... you are underweight. I cannot comment on if you have anorexia, as you did not post your diet lifestyle, ie what you eat day to day. The site above lists your height as having the lowest possible healthy weight of 110 pounds. So yes, you are too skinny, and if you are not eating properly to maintain this unhealthy weight, then yes, you are anorexic.

You can also be super skinny, yet be fat. Muscle weighs more than fat, so eat healthy and tone your body to add a little muscle meat to your bones. This will make you incredibly attractive to the guys and make all the girls jealous. So, do not look at your weight so strictly, look at your BMI index. That muscle to fat ratio is far more important than 98 pounds or 120 pounds.
Of course not! And if anyone is telling you other wise they are trying to bring u down. It is all about your body type. I have known women that were your height that weigh in at 155 that are athletic and very fit ...however if you tell someone that they will think they are fat because u are only looking at numbers and do not show the individual. I am 6ft and 255 and very solid..its all about the body type. Plus look on the bright side when you've hit your late thirties and are still thin they will envious of your build, it's all how you look at it
Okay, I cannot stress this enough. Anorexia is an eating disorder, not a weight. Yes, you are underweight but if you eat, you are not anorexic. Your BMI is 16.6. Healthy is between 18.5 and 24.9. I have a friend who is 94lbs and 5' 7" naturally. You could be naturally skinny like her, however, depending on your age you will probably fill out like i know she will.
wow you either want some attention or something. that is WAY too skinny. i am the same height and i do not weight no one hundred pounds. even if you eat healthy and exercise it must be too much. you shouldn't do that to your body
