Is the weight issue getting out of hand??
Question:

People focus on completely the wrong thing, naturally the most visual aspect to us, our physical size.
Now I make no qualms about the fact for quite a number of years I was obese before I seriously started to lose weight, eight stone gone (Two stone needed to be lost still) it isn’t the physical aspects that have made me happy (alright getting down from size 20 into the teens did make me feel great, and eventually onto 16/14, and looking ‘curvy‘ felt great) but its exercise that has boosted my life tremendously.
Fitness should be what we strive for, it gives confidence and self esteem, something to aim for that will have a positive affect on your life.
We shouldn’t be drilling in ‘weight’ or ‘size’ to anyone, especially children, get them involved in something physically strenuous, that they enjoy, enjoyment is the most important thing in exercise, allow them to find their goal within that, competitions, personal progression, whatever they decide.
I’ve had a few comments from friends saying I’ll put it all back on when I stop, I’m begging the question stop what? I’m not on a fad diet, I haven’t starved or limited myself in anyway, I haven’t ate salads, vegetables for all my meals, I still eat ice cream, chips, and other food countered as ‘fatty’ just in moderation (I was never big on those before), I‘m proof you don‘t need to stop eating what you normally would to lose or go on a ridiculous 'low carb, low fat, low-whatever' diet weight just stop ‘unhealthy habits‘ for example I was big on eating at night time, excessively, just because I wanted to, I went cold turkey on that, hurt like a … for the first week but I got over it, and eight stone is evidence of that.
u sound defensive cuz ur probably fat. america is becoming the most obese nation in the world. i think that becoming more weight conscious will do all of us good, not bad!
i like round girls with some meat
in 10 years time, nicole richie would probably be a role model on weight loss
as long as you let your kid watch these kind of commercials with time it will get out of hand. if you think she has fears about weight now imagine her teenagehood!!it's not going to be easy i suggest you find a way to show her that food is delicious and healthy and help you get smart.at the sae time just to keep it real show her that there are kinds of food that are not healthy
good luck:)
there are 2 extremes, those fatties who are putting there health at risk, and those skinnies who are putting their health at risk. i think maybe a class at school should be taught on how to eat well and maintain a healthy natural weight and body! i think its panic about how many obese children there are that is scaring those who are fine into starving themselves too, and those fashion magazines dont help showing size zero girls who are half dead every week makes me sick!!
haha like nicole richie in 10 years..no but i wouldnt want to fear being over weight and knowing that it effects my health. honestly i agree with the people saying over weight is bad because it is. its just risking your life more and more you become over weight. i think thats why its in the media all the time is because no body wants to see people over weight i mean no offense but a little workin out every so often is better that sittin around
god yes. i hate the fact that people are so worried about their weight. i'm 19 years old, 5'6", and 179 pounds. i don't spend my days worrying about my weight. sure i get insecure, but it's not my goal in life to weight absolutely nothing. the media sure doesn't help, glamorizing nasty stick figures like nichole richie and jennifer aniston.
EAT A HAMBURGER, GIRLS!
believe it or not obesity is getting way of hand. I actually think opposite, America is becoming more content being overweight. Its freightning to seen people who can bearly walk. People in America dont exercise nearly as much as a human needs but we have the most fast food around the world!
Isn't it absolutely INSANE.how society puts more and more pressure on people to be thin. YET.society just keeps getting fatter and fatter??
I think that must be the most ironic thing I can think of. Seriously.
They make everything bigger nowadays, from clothing to soft drinks, to seats and televisions. And.everyone else is getting bigger as a result.
Yet. They all want to make you feel like Hell if you're five pounds over or fifty.
AND another ironic thing..is that SO MUCH focus and emphasis is put on things like weight training and yoga and Pilates and spinning and all other kinds of crazy things people are convinced are the treasure troves holding a miracle cure.YET..back 30-40 years ago, PEOPLE WERE MUCH SLIMMER!
How crazy is that?
Ugh.
In ten years, I think I'm just going to hide in a cave or a bunker somewhere. ;)
I do worry because of an ignorance of what healthy eating actually means, especially for children who are still growing. All of us need a balanced diet with a variety of food types, rather than cutting out certain food types altogether. It's really important for children, especially girls, to have plenty of calcium. There used to be an advert many years ago that said "Drinkapintamilkaday". Many years from now I can predict more women than ever suffering from osteoporosis. We know it's not healthy to be obese but it's also not healthy to be too thin.
Most of the fault lies with the media, in one form or another, women who are models, actresses etc are often pushed into being ultra thin, its time to stop this before we create a generation of anorexic women, striving to reach a weight they were never meant to be. There must be more education on what constant dieting can do to your body, and the long term effects, you could start with teen mags which should give a more balanced coverage and promote women who are healthy without being obsessive, then maybe they could see those women as role models, eat healthy, exercise and you will look and feel great, thats what todays media should be promoting.
im 5ft6

i dont have unhealthy eating habits, sure i have days especially when im near my period of munching through biscuits but i dont do it everyday
i eat fruit and veg and salads
I do the weight watchers eating plan - which doesnt feel like a diet, but like a lifestyle change - this has encouraged me to eat more things like fruit and veg and salad, i never used to and i still have 1 treat a day, which i plan into my points!
Im hoping to get down to 10 stone 5lb before easter 2008 if not christmas 2007! ive got about 2 stone 1lb to loose! i think thats right anyways

i dont agree with girls dieting extremlely and going from like a size 12 to a 6! that aint right!!
A size 12 isnt fat either - its a nice size to be, a proud size! im a size 14 on my bottoms still but a 12 up top, i have really really wide hips!! which came in very useful when i was in labour lol! but anyways id love to be a size 12 on the bottom
im gonna loose that weight and see how i feel, but 10 stone 5lb i think is where i will stop and try and maintain!
but i wont be happy until i get there!
Of course the weight issue is getting out of hand, too many teenagers look at people, seeing how great they look in mag's then want to be like them. It's a shame editors approve these pictures, the same goes for people in TV.
We all should eat healthily, but it is difficult with all those pictures zero pointing in our faces each day, catching the eyes of the young, inspiring them to be thin.
Maybe the glossy mags should have me in them, that would certainly change the outlook of the modern day magazine. (I'm short, fat and ugly) on the other hand, the camera might break.
