Chemicals in our food builds up on the way through process, so how do we really know how much we are getting.?

Question:
I was thinking, (that is a dangerous act these days - thinking), that at the farm the crops are sprayed and the animals are dosed before they even get to market where they are again treated with more chemicals and then shipped. It all sounds to me like a tripple dose of nasty stuff added. So, how do we really know when we are getting our daily MDA dose of chemicals? To the same extent I think organics also have some chemicals along the way including from your own garden. So what do you think?

Answers:
Excellent point...it can drive one insane to try to find out all the pathogens that contribute to your food along the way. One of the best things to do is to favor food that has taken the shortest trip to your plate...this not only helps prevent global warming, if you believe in that, it's probably also healthier. Food in its most original form carries the least amount of things added. Of course, we can't control too much what leads up to food production, but you can maybe look into the grower's reputation, sustainable practices, etc.
In general, local farmers markets are practically the best we can do...it might cost a little more, but I think it is worth it (plus, you get to sample the food before you commit to buying it.)
Why do you think a 1/3 of the population gets some form of cancer in their lifetime? We're surrounded by and ingesting toxins every day- it's amazing any of us can function at all! How many people do you know who take prescription meds? Chemicals in our lousy, over processed diets, water supply, and everyday items (shampoos, exhaust, paint fumes, etc) are unavoidable and are killing us!

That's what I think.
