If starving doesn't work how come Nicole Richie and other celebs are so skinny?

People say that starving never works and will only make you gain weight. If that's the truth, how come Nicole Richie, Lindsay Lohan etc. lost so much weight (20 lbs.!) in a matter of a few months?

What do you think Nicole Richie's diet consists of anyway? How much does she eat (what does she eat)? And how much does she exercise?

Nicole Richie's figure isn't one to admire or aspire to. She is much too thin. Celebrities in Hollywood feel more immense pressure to be underweight because they are photographed and criticized constantly, so they wind up overdoing it and looking unhealthy.

The best way to get a thin and attractive figure is to eat healthy foods and lead an active lifestyle. If you start getting more physical activity and eating less junk food, your body will get smaller and more fit. This is the best way and also LOOKS the best because you keep muscle tone and a healthy glow about your skin because your body is not being starved or deprived.

Try taking up hobbies like running, walking, swimming, going to the gym, sports, cycling, etc., that you can do with friends for fun. Then try eating less fast food, sweets, chips and sodas. You will see a change in the way you look and you won't be harming yourself and your health.

Obviously you are too young to understand what you're talking about. Anyone who thinks the best way to manage weight is to develop an eating disorder like anorexia or bulimia needs serious help You ever read a paper or watch tv and see how screwed up these girls lives are? Half are in and out of jail, the other half in and out of rehab. And losing 20 pounds in a couple of months is not unrealistic.

I don't know her personally, so I wouldn't be able to tell you what her diet consists of, how much she eats, what she eats nor how much she exercises..

it's common sense that these women are horribly thin.. starving works, so does the cocaine they take in.. the meth, you name it, they've tried it.. so because they're doing this and losing weight, does that mean you should do it as well?

Starving yourself, starves your body of the nutrients and proteins it needs in order to function properly.. you are merely damaging your body while purposely starving yourself.

This is a horrible message to be getting from these celebrities.. just because they are doing it, doesn't mean it's safe. Keep that in mind and just try to eat right and exercise in order to burn off more calories than you take in, on a daily basis.
Make no mistake, starvation works. It just is a very, very bad idea.

To see any weight loss, you will have to fast for great than 4 days. Initially, when fasting, you body slows down it's metabolism in response to the decreased caloric intake, therefore you aren't burning anything, just what is necessary.

By the time you see any weight loss from this method, you may have already caused irreparable damage to your body. You will be anemic and weak, you will get very sick anytime you eat anything and eventually you will look as disgusting as Paris Hilton (now that is just a shame.)
You can gain weight!! I have tried...It's not healthy. They go so long that they begin to lose weight...but they are so unhealthy, have you looked at them?? they have no curves, they are sticks. If you are trying to lose weight do yourself a favor and find a balence of healthy foods that work for you!!
What I think people mean when they say that is when you start to starve yourself for the first few days your body goes into "starvation mode" and will store and save EVERYTHING. After a few days the body can no longer keep up. SO its true that if you only starved yourself for a week its a loss cause but over time it will hold true.

ALso skinny isnt always healthy! You may think that by starving yourself and being skinny would be great but along with being skinny you will have your hair start to fall out, you will ALWAYS feel tired, headaches, along with a THOUSAND over had effects.

The reason it doesn't work is that once you start eating a normal diet again, the pounds are gonna come back on quicker than they came off. It's not a diet you can maintain because your body will eventually shut down with so few nutrients in your system. I know I sound like a broken record, but diet and exercise are the only way to go to lose your weight in a healthy manner and to keep your body in good working order.
It's called drugs. I ate two small meals a day and drank tons of cokes and took a Dexadrine a day, which is an Aderol/Ritalin equivalent and lost weight like crazy. Since realizing the harm I was doing to my body i have gained 30 lbs. Don't even start doing it. They also do excessive amounts of cocaine, that'll help too.

Of course not eating will make you lose weight quickly, when you start eating again and everyone does unless they have an abuse problem you will gain more weight back because your body thinks it was straving and it want to prevent that from happening again and takes in more reserves.
there celebs and put there money up there nose.
they dont starve themselfs silly- they simple just dont tell people they blow lines- they have the money to party. Im not saying go do drugs...because thats stupid.

and for your question- im an old lady now but when i was younger i had an eating disorder and starved myself forsome time...eventually you get right back to where you were when you finally decide to eat and people get confused because you gain it back faster then it took you to loose it- but ontop of that its bad for you- after starving yourself your body gets weak and muscles get weak- when you gain that weight back your body just might colaps.
Well since we all know her personally, we know that she eats one grape and a carrot stick for every meal, and she runs 5 miles a day, plus weight training.

Don't do what the stars do! The reason they lose weight is because those two specific women do drugs! They both are known for doing cocaine, which keeps you from eating and being hungry! They also smoke, which will do that too! That's very unhealthy! What you need to do is stop eating junkfoods, and start eating healthy and in small portions. About 5 very small meals a day, and listen to your body. Eat to satisfy, not to get full or stuffed. This helps your metabolism speed through your meals and enable you to burn calories! Don't listen to everything the magazines say. There not true. Most of the time those reporters don't get to talk to the stars and just make something up! And you should consider excersises that you enjoy to make it easier to do. I belly dance. It's low impact, and fun cause I never knew I could ever learn to even dance! And it's known that a very serious dancer, can burn up to 300+ calories in one hour! That's dancing non-stop! And doing that for up to 5 hours a day should burn all the calories you eat in a day! Which women should eat up to 1500 calories a day, and men should eat up to 2000 calories a day! It's okay if you want to go down to 1200 calories if you really want to lose weight. But no less. Your body needs healthy foods to help it keep you healthy. Unhealthy is like Linsey and Nicole, eating sometimes less than 1000 calories a day! You can die from unhealthy eating habits and drugs! Be safe.
What starving does is causes your body to go into something called 'starvation mode'. What this means is the body tries to hold on to the fat and starts burning of your muscle reserves instead and even starts to feed on internal organs! That is not to say you don't lose fat too, but this is ofset by the amount of muscle you lose. Even though you look 'skinny', you end up with a higher fat/muscle ratio if you continue to starve yourself and when you gain weight back you end up fatter than you were to start with!
