I'm 14, 5'4", and 139 lbs... am I overweight?

Question:
I don't eat junk food or anything, but I think I'm kinda on the higher end of the "average" because I drank a lot of milk and consumed a lot of dairy products as a kid. Um, I run for seventy minutes everyday but it doesn't really help, I've only lost like three pounds and it's been six weeks.

So should I lose weight? And if I should, how much?

Answers:
Don't worry too much about your weight right now. At around 13-16 teen girls often put on weight. It is also the time of your life you should drink and eat more dairy products. Your body is storing reserves in your bones to help prevent osteoporosis later. Around 16-18 you should start slimming down again. Girls at your age really shouldn't worry about their weight. I was 155 lbs at your age, I am 19 and 130 lbs now. So if you eat healthy don't worry, your body knows what it is doing.
ermmm i think your a little overweight
or maybe i'm just underweight
hahah not sure

but i'm 14 also
and i only weight 100
sometimes 90 something if its a bad week

just eat more heathly
excersising (but not too much)
running is really good your your body :D
Dont worry. You are fine. Just excersize and give a little time and grow a bit.
Only slightly, but a lot depends on frame

Rule of thumb is 100 pounds up to five feet and five pounds per inch, so best weight should be 120, so you are at high limits
you lose as much as you think would make you feel good.

3 lbs in 6 weeks is not bad, you probably gained some muscle pounds. keep at it, and watch total calories.
ur a little over weight. im reall unheathly. i have this thing that wen i eat fat something in my body burns it thats y i weight 62 pounds and im 11!
NO... of course not.. you are a growing girl.. its probably just baby fat. trust me it'll go away within a couple of years... and you'll look even more beautiful... dont worry bout weight, worry bout life..
if you have lost three pounds in 6 weeks you are doing perfectly! you should loose about 2 pounds a week max, 1 pound is healthy. and being 14 will affect your weight too. you'll be fine just make healthy decisions every day of your life
Have a trained professional calculate your BMI (body mass index) and if it's over, I think 14, your overweight.
Good Luck on loosing weight the healthy way!!
(I was anorexic for a year and ended up in the hospital! Keep things natural!!)
you dont really need to lose too much weight, have you tried crunches and weights? your diet sounds pretty good, but try switching to skim milk. After a little while it doesnt taste bad at all, (now i cant drink any other type) and theres much less fat
no not overweight. and keep in mind that muscle weighs more than fat so with all that running that could be the case. In eight grade this girl i knew was 150 and skinny as a rail but was on track. everybody carries weight differently. why be so worried about it though? accept who you are and others will too.
well it depends if that weight is part muscle or not? from what you said.. i dont think it is. yeh try some toning stuff like pilates along with your 17 minutes of running.. or even better, join a sport
no you are normal.
BMI Categories:

Underweight = <18.5
Normal weight = 18.5-24.9
Overweight = 25-29.9
Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater
and your BMI is 23.9

you should not focus on losing weight!
what i do is go to the gym , lift weights, run on the treadmill.
i highly recommend swimming, b/c you exercise every muscle in your body. and muscle burns way more colories thna fat
i think your fine, but im 16 and i weigh 120 and ive been trying to lose weight too but im shorter, but yeah i run too and idk if its working, so maybe you might wanna go on a diet
you really really need to lose weight fast. your border line morbidly obese.
if ur a little meaty then just lose 9 lbs and also cut back on calories but personally i think ur fine
Your "healthy" weight range is 92-136.

http://www.kidshealth.org/kid/feeling/th...

a 3 pound loss in 6 weeks doens't seem like a ton of progress when you're eager to reach your goal... but it's actually good progress for someone as close to your body's ideal weight as you are.

Your workout is maybe TOO aggressive. Take 1 day off each week for recovery.

Add some resistance training. If you have more muscle, your body will burn calories faster... and you will be able to eat the same amount of calories and still lose more weight.

Also, take a look at your diet and see if you can't cut back a little more on junk food. It's hard to eat right when school serves the equivalent of fast food these days. So try to bring healthy meals from home.

Also, eat smaller meals more often... like 5-6 small meals or snacks each day. That will also speed up your metabolism and help out with weight loss.

Just don't go overboard or get obsessed with the numbers on the scale. You are still young, and you will "grow into" your weight if you just maintain it or lose slowly as you are now. For now, just learn healthy habits and try to enjoy being a teenager!
No your not overweight. you will probably get taller 2. take a break and don't work your body to hard. listen to your body. go to a gym and use 15 pound weights and try a spin class. it really helps. I'm 18 and I'm only 5'1", and i weigh 123 lbs. and i have atshma so it is hard for me to work out a lot. Also have a lot of confidence in your self, believe you can get healthier. and try to stay away from stuff that are high in fat and/or sugar because a lot of Americans think stuff like Potatoes and Mac & Cheese are healthy when there really loaded with calories.
hope i helped you! and i hope you feel better
Your Body Mass Index (BMI) is in the normal range. Normal BMI is 18.8-25.0, and you are at 23.9. A healthy diet consists of a variety of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, high quality protein. Try to limit your fat to less than 20% of your diet. If you are running 7 days per week, you should cut it down. I suggest 30-60 minutes of cardio 5-6 days per week. You can also try different forms of cardio. Try to mix up your routine. Some days you can exercise for an hour at a comfortable pace, but on other days kick up the intensity and do it for shorter periods of time. Variety will help condition your body and alleviate boredom.
you are ok for ur weight. not skinny though.
I used the information you gave to calculate your BMI (Body mass index) it says you are a 23.7 which fall into the normal range. (18.5-24.9) Technically your wieght is just fine, and you are still young and your body is still going through lots of changes! Don't worry about it sweetie. If you are that concerned, eat healthy and exercise, so you can develop that good habit now. Don't worry about pounds, worry about health. Then when you are older like me (20) you would already have good habits! Good luck and don't stress! Your beautiful the way you are.
Hey, okay, the last answer was waaay too harsh!

Yes, you are overweight. I don't care what the BMI charts say, because those aren't always correct and they don't take into consideration your type of build or anything.

I would try to get down to 115. If you could. Just eat right and stay on a low-calorie plan...I suggest cardio for at least an hour a day to start with and then slowly slow it down to maintain your ideal weight.

You don't eat junk? That is really great. Try going vegetarian or vegan, though. Meats and dairy contain a lot of unessential fats and are actually pretty gross. And you can get your protein a lot of other places besides meat. I mean, whoever heard of somebody with a protein deficiency anyway? XD But really, no meat will cut out A LOT of calories. So I suggest being a vegetarian. Or at least eating like one.

Mix up your cardio. Maybe that's why your body isn't getting rid of some weight. Also, you might actually have quite a bit of muscle, so maybe that's where a lot of that weight is.

Good luck!
Nah, you're not overweight. According to the BMI, you are 23.9, which is "Normal Weight." Keep exercising and you'll be able to work it off slowly. For your age, it's normal to go up in weight. And some people hide their weight well, so you could be thin and still be showing up on the scale as a little heavy.

Trust me, I was 14 and I weighed 140... And in the winter, I'm 148... And I'm 5'6". It's a pain. I know how you feel, but you sound like you are doing a good job, so keep up the good work!
A little over weight.
You should weigh 120-125 lb.
You can lose a few pounds easy if you cut out breads , sweets, potatoes ,pasta, rice and anything with a lot of carbs.
They make your body hold water , making you gain weight.
According to Prevention Magazine (my bible!) you should be 111-146. So at this point you should listen to your body. (Remember that for life.) If you feel like you're carrying a little too much weight around go ahead and lose 5-10 pounds. It's all about CALORIES. Drink lowfat (1%) milk or nonfat. Cut out sugar (desserts,) fast food, fried food, and soda pop. Read labels!! Drink a lot of water. You are probably losing about 700 calories when you run. So you just have to eat less calories. When you reach your ideal weight , you need to eat your weightX 15. So if you weigh 130X15=1950 calories, you'd maintain your 130, assuming you are doing a normal amount of exercise. You are doing more than the "normal amount". There are 3500 calories in a pound. If you don't know a lot about calories, pick up a paperback of calories at any drug or book store. Good luck!! If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me. btw, you lose calories just moving, so that would include squats. :)
really it is hard to say wether someone is overweight just by knowing someones height and weight... to determine that your overweight you should really ask you doctor to calculate your percentage of body fat. my sister is 16 and 5'4" and she weights 155-ish and she is very lean because she plays alot of sports and has a lot of dense muscle tissue which weights alot more than fat. so really there isn't a set weight rule for height.
