I wouldn't start before you're about 15 or 16, and even then only moderatly.
You can damage your growth plates with too heavy or intense of training.
Once you're 18, go nuts.
13-15 would be a good age. dont worry about how much to lift. its more important that you do the exercises correctly. start of light till your used to the exercises. dont hurt yourself. it would be a good idea to invest in a few books.
i'm 13 and lift wieghts. my arms lift an ave. of 30 pounds
my legs 50 and my enitrie body can lift 110 . i work out 3-4 times a week 45min each time
