Only eating once a day. Is this healthy?

Question:
I recently started eating once a day... not for any weight loss purposes but mostly because I was busy and it stuck... now I only get hungry once a day... then I consume about 1000 cals (I get about 300 more during the day through drinks or light snacks). I'm dropping weight real fast suddenly (I never used to eat more than 1500 cals a day, so its not too little for me) Why am I losing weight like this now? Are there any other affects this could have on me?

Answers:
Eating once a day is not the best way to handle your dietary needs... eating many small meals in a day is the right way of doing things. So the idea is that you are snacking periodically through the day to fuel your body. we are not like cars where you can put the fuel in and it only gets used as needed. We run more like a fireplace... constant small bits of wood in the fire keep it burning at it's optimum level.. and this is how the body works. You will also have to look at how you are eating.. if you are eating many fruits and vegetables, then it stands to reason that you will lose the weight. And how about your activity levels?? Have they increased as well??
There are just so many factors that contribute to weight loss and diet is only one of them.
Eating once a day can cause issues for you like fatigue and it has its effect on your blood sugar levels as well so it could cause dizziness as well. You may be losing the weight now, but later on, you may find that you put the weight back on and actually gain more than what you started off as.
I think loseing weight is good! But it depends on if you want to or not...your body is used to haveing to burn off the 1500, and now that it is only getting 1000, it's burning the fat. Eventually it will level out, and you wont' lose weight fast, or you might not lose weight at all.
It seems due to your change of eating your metabolism has changed.

You mention snacking so your not really eating ONCE a day.

Ask dietician or doctor if you drop to an unsafe weight.
Unless you are a very obese person you should not be loosing weight like this. If a large person cuts down like that they should loose, but a small person should be able to eat smaller amout of calories and maintain there weight. Any way I would try to eat atleast 2 times a day. You would feel better .
well...i think people should eat 4 small meals a day. Your body is used to eating once a day now so you get hungry once a day. Your losing weight because there is more time to burn the calories with eating once a day.
not healthy and it can lead to stomach ulcers
Um Im not sure if thats healthy. Your losing weight because your not eating as much as you should, or at least as much as your body is used to.

Not good:)
u r losing weight because u r eating 500 calories less than u used to. most doctors and scientists agree that to begin a weight loss program, start by lowering ur intake by 500 calories. thing is, u were getting the minimum amt of caloric intake before u dropped off. u need 10-20 calories per pound to maintain proper organ functioning, but never dip below 1200. keep that in mind.

just create a new eating schedule, and stick to it. ur body will get used to a regular eating schedule again soon enough.
no
thats not healthy
Breakfast is important to get your body going. Lunch keeps you going and dinner fills out the bill for health to keep your body running. To many people are trapped with what ever they can scrounge up and even one meal a day is tough for some. Health is a concern, you should get all you need from fresh foods. MDA is set low, cheap vitamins can help you get what you need as long as you can eat something. I snack during the day, eat as good as I can for dinner, take a walk and let it digest over night and get along fine.
