Is there really such a thing as being "big boned"?

Question:
Or is this just an excuse for being overweight due to poor diet and/or overeating? If it does exist, then how can you really tell?

Answers:
No...and people need to stop using this excuse to cover up a very serious--life threatening problem. We have an obesity epidemic in this country, and people don't want to deal with it. Instead, people are actually trying to defend and praise obesity as a lifestyle choice. This is absurd! We must stop the madness!!
its not real fat people make it up
Well you can have different sized frames that is sort of similar.
There is a formula to tell your frame size by measuring your wrist. I bet you can google it. However the actual weight difference between the average height small frame and average height large frame is like 1-2 pounds. So basically, its an excuse!
people who are large without being 'fat' can often be measured as big boned.
If you are over the normal weight and height range for your age but you have a solid mass of muscle and no fat. you might just have a larger stature that others. remember though muscle weight a lot more than fat...
well to answer your question...no. everyone has a different body structure making yiou appear different. no one person is big boned.
well, i've heard, that you can tell if you are big, medium or small boned by putting your middle finger and thumb around your wrist. if they dont touch your big bones, if they do nicely, you are medium, and if they overlap you're small. but i think big boned people, if they are healthy look just as good as the smaller people... they have good proportionate bodies. if you are overweight you are overweight, and you'll be able to tell...
well, look at gorilla's.they are big boned, it must be possible. Now as far as the big belly..no. then it would be an excuse. My friend's dad has fingers as big as bananas, so it is possible
yes and then no. Bones are made differently some are thicker compared to others, mostly on hips, but you will know if you are fat are not, I mean like my hips are wide but you can see my bones and I have abs, Im pretty sure Im not overweight, no on the other hand for some other person whose hips are wide as mine but have fat hanging, yeah, they are over weight.
There are actual standards for bone size, measured around the wrist. For each 1/2 inch over that measurement, you add 5 lbs to your ideal weight. You'll find a table of measurements on this website: http://adam.about.com/encyclopedia/00193...
Have YOU ever seen a fat skeleton??

Fat people and skinny people, of the same height, would have VERY similiar skeletal frames. There's no such thing as this myth of "big boned" unless you're meaning someone like the elephant-man who had calcium deposits which thickened and mis-shaped his frame.
There are different size frames. You can research online under bone sizes. It will give you different measurements and tell you how to measure your bone size so you will know if you are small boned or big boned. Some people do say they are just big boned when really they are overweight but some are just big boned.
yes. it is real. you can tell because some people's shoulders are closer together and some ore far apart. being big-boned, however, is not an excuse for being overweight. i am big boned (and i hate it) but it's true. also, i am not fat, having bigger bones does not make you fat.
