My mother chides me for eating too close to my bedtime: she says it's unhealthy. Is she right?

Question:
My mother is a nurse, and she says that eating too soon before you go to sleep is unhealthy. The theory is that the food won't digest properly, and the fat will stay in your blood and make you overweight if you do it too often.

To me, this sounds like an old wives tale, like only using 10% of your brain or that eating chocolate will give you acne, both of which aren't true.

So is she right? Can I blame the fact that I am a little pudgy right now on the proximity between my dinner and my bedtime?

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I look forward to your answers!

Answers:
Yes! She is right!

No, that is not true. The reason you are pudgy is because you don't exercise enough.
YES, your mom is right. If you eat before bed all that fat sleeps with you which can make you fat. Try to eat a light snack a few hours before you go to bed. Or have a glass of milk to help you sleep.
It is not eating before you go to bed, but it too much before you go to bed. Most good nutrition plans these days call for six smaller meals (smaller!) each day, with the last one 1 to 1 1/2 hours before bedtime.
