Advice on eating healthy?

Question:
I will start off by briefly explaining my weekly eating habits, there not good and I know this but I dont know how I can adjust and what type of foods to adjust too.
For probaly the last 10 yrs I have been eating very little per day, usually I go about 7 hrs (from the time I wake up) not putting anything in my body except for some juice, coffee, and perhaps a pop. For lunch I usually eat the same thing durning the week, a ham sandwich with a pop or can of juice. Then I proceed not to eat again for another 6 hrs which is usually my "meal of the day" which usually involves just a basic pasta meal or burger with fries.
I tend to have quite a bit of energy at work always working hard and pushing my body to the limits but on weekends I am usaully burnt out.
Also,I would like to gain some more weight (I have been about 140 since I was 16, and I am now 29).
I am ready to start eating healhy, any advice (or links) on types of foods and meal routines would be appericiated.
Thanks

If you drink two canned sodas per day, you should not drink coffee. Your body should not take in more than 24 ounces of caffeine per day. If you must drink soda, drink a caffeine-free variety.

Eat breakfast! It is very important for your body to break the fasting that it did all night. Please put some food in your body. Even just eating an apple or a banana would be great.

Pasta is good for yor body as long as you are burning those calories. If you are not generally active, perhaps you should consider varying your diet to include other items.

There is a lot of fat in hamburger meat. Although it is fine for an occasional meal, it should not be eaten everyday.

Try eatingsix small meals throughout the day rather than one small meal and one large meal. This will give your body the nourishment it needs throughout the day.

You should drink eight 8 oz. glasses of water per day. This will keep your body refreshed and rehydrated.

Your body is burnt out because you have a poor diet. Just by making simple changes, you should be able to see a difference.

Also, if you stay up later on the weekends, that could make you feel burnt out as well. As a rule, do not stay up more than a couple of hours past your normal bedtime.

If you truly feel that you need to gain weight, you should consult your doctor for the safest and healthiest way to do that.

Good luck to you!
Glad to hear you're consdiering a health lifestyle. A 29 year old male should weigh about 150 to 160 pounds. I amazed to see that you maintained your weight for that long eating that little. Anyway, you have to eat more and exercise. Weight lifting will pack on a good 10 pounds if you workout seriously for 6 months. Eat a lot of Carbs for energy and preotien to build and maintain muscle. Good luck
Ok. Basically I would assume your metabolism is really slow because your eating huge meals few times a day. It will take a while to adjust and get used to, but you need to be eating small quantities frequently. So every 3 or so hours, but smaller amounts. This way, your body does not go into processing overload, and is able to digest and get the good stuff out of food easily. You need to increase your water intake straight away. I usually start off with a deal that if I drink one glass of water, I can then have one juice and so on, eventually only having water.

It is important that you get a good breakfast. This means oats or a healthy bran like cereal. Look for one that is low in sugar and add a yogurt you really like on top.

For lunch, I would suggest chicken. It is high in protein and easy to make. Get chicken (breast or fillet is best). Place on tray in oven that is covered with tin foil. No oil or nothing. Cook for about 10 mins until white all through. Put in fridge. Super simple! Add veges like broccolli and a nice sauce that isnt too fatty.

For dinner, stick to meat and vege. A small amount of pasta is ok, but its carbs and you need more protein. Try doing 5 days of good eating, and maybe one night you can have fries etc. Eventually my body got headaches when i was eating fries so I cant stand them anymore (yay!).

Sushi is also great. For snacks, anything small quick and not high in sugar. Nuts are great.

Basically it will take a while to adust, but the key is to finding what works for you. Maybe just change your lunch and dinner to begin. Then change all your meals.
its all about the right balance.

try somethin like:

breakfast - cereal, eggs, toast...maybe a meat like sausage (bacon too once in awhile but dont be like them ppl that eat bacon every mornin). Milk or orange juice as well.

lunch - could be a sandwich and juice or water. Maybe a fruit like a banana.

dinner - this is where you should probably go all out. salad then a good serving of meat.

also, I think that "8 glasses of water a day" thing is pretty overrated. most beverages we consume have a natural water intake...and there a little-to-no ppl who drink ONLY water, so I wouldnt stress that too much.

as well if you are a big burger and fries person...you can always do somethin like ground beef and potatoes for dinner...same thing basically, healthier to an extent.

but that should get some weight on you i think.
