Carbs make me very fatigued. Why? Help!?
Question:
Is there something wrong with me? I thought carbs give you energy.
Answers:
Carbs make you sleepy because they are heavy and take a long time to digest. It's true they give you energy, but if you aren't an active person, you will feel fatigued and you'll likely gain weight if you are eating a lot. Consider having less carbs and maybe right after a workout when your body is burning a lot. The more carbs you eat, the more water you need to drink. That will help the feeling go away.
It could also be that little ceasers bread sticks are very fatenning (loaded with sugar and oils) which can also make a person feel fatigued.
I don't know what time it is where you are but it is midnight here in new york in which case you should be feeling sleepy. Getting plenty of sleep is a healthy process for many reasons.
As for the carbohydrates, are you eating them really late? That could be it. You may want to look at the pattern and type of carbohydrates that you are eating. That might help you find foods which do no have a good glycemic index. What that means is that you might be eating carbs which all get used in a short period of time and not throughout the day.
No, carbs do not give you energy. Wellnot the carbs you are eating... vegetables and fruits give you energy especially blueberries and other berries.
sugary carbs mixed with protiens... like bread and cheese, milk and cereal, meat sandwhices... stimulate the body to release triptophan, the body's natural sleep aid.

Complex carbs are the carbs that give you that extra boost, things such as fruit, veggies, nuts (also protein), whoel grains.
Pizza is a simple carb, meaning it has a lot of sugars.
You could also have a sensitivity to things like this. A lot of people can't handle processed foods as well as fresher foods. You could have a kind of "allergic reaction" to the fatter, more sugary simple carbs.
Try not eating stuff like that for a while and see how you feel-you should notice a difference within the first week.
