Answers:
walking is a very good way to loose weight because it is low impact. You will not gain weight if you do more than 60 min of cardio.A trick that I learned that works is cutting your meal size down to about 200-300 cal. and eating every 4 hrs. This really speeds up your metabolism and you will burn more calories a day. And also drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. This will also help your metabolism. Good luck, I wish you well.
Remember that muscle weighs more than fat. If anything do not look on the scale, look at how your clothes fit.
The 1200 calories a day will do a LOT of the work for you. Good choice. 3500 calories equals a pound.
The walking is great for losing. So is cardio. The gaining weight if you work out too much is actually a myth. You gain muscle to replace the fat and muscle weighs more than fat. So while it may not look like you are losing "weight" you actually are. You're reshaping and toning your body so you will continue to loose inches even if it looks like you didn't lose according to the scale.
Cutting calories is not always the best way. You can cut calories but still have too much fat and sugar in your diet and not enough fiber. 1200 calories a day is no good for you if you eat it in the form of chocolate and chips. Here's a better idea. Nothing fried, ever, cut red meat and replace it with chicken or fish. Cut sugar out 100% and enjoy fruits and vegetables instead. Add vitamins to your diet. I went from a size 14 to a size 2 following those rules (and weight watchers, but that is basically the above listed rules) If you must have chips or cookies, get baked chips and only allow yourself ONE handful... no more. Cookies - they have those great little calorie packs now. Just limit yourself to one pack at a time. Small doesn't = eat more.
Do not worry about cleaning your plate. If you find you are eating the last half just to empty your plate, stop eating and throw it away immediately. It takes 20 minutes for your stomache to get the message to your brain that you are full so eat slowly, read or watch TV or something that makes you stop and watch.
No take-home left overs from restaurants. They are just temptations that are too easy to eat. It's best not to have pre-made meals but rather only ingredients. I've found I often walk away from the fridge when I realize I don't want a snack bad enough to cook it. I've missed many snack attacks that way.
It took me almost a year to make the change so don't rush it. As a matter of fact it's easier to keep up if you go slow because you develop the habits better and it's easier to stick to them. If you starve yourself your body will actually panic and think there's less food available so it stores the fat instead of losing it.
Go get 'em and congrats on the walking - it's the best. Put your favorite up-tempo songs in a walkman or MP3 and listen while you walk. You'll find your pace speeds up naturally as you listen. Even more calories burned!
Walk every day, cardio every other day, same for weight lifting. I use hand weights and just lift while watching the tube. Reps until it aches. I've got great upper body tone because of it and I only use 5lb weights.
It will do alto, make sure you drink lots of water. Close to double of what you normally drink. Eat lots of fiber, it will make your metabolism more efficient and will help burn calories. When ever you go down to less than 1500 calories a day it gets quite dangerous. Make sure you get all the important nutrients and take a multivitamin. Try jogging instead of walking. At least for 5 minutes, then walk 10, and jog 5 and so on. You will tire faster and burn more calories. And that's not true you should try to do as much cardio as possible. I go to the gym daily and to an hour of cardio followed by some weight training so I have some experience. If there is anything you need help with just add me to your contacts and e-mail me.
Good Luck.
it is true that you will gain weight only because you will be gaining muscle, which is not bad if you want a lean look. but if you want a skinny look and to lose weight fast. you have two options: cut all sugar, including juice. natural sugar in fruit is ok. and complex carbs (potatoes, pasta, rice, bread) or ask you doctor to prescribe you the weight loss pills called Phentermine which is the generic of Adipex. you can get either one they are the same. you are guaranteed to lose 20 in one month if you continue doing the exercise regimen you're already doing.
