Is body mass index and percent body fat the same thing?
Question:
Answers:
no, the BMI is a scale that was developed to help doctors determine whether a person's weight is a healthy one or not, and it isnt 100%. i have a very athletic build and the index would label me obese if you didnt see me because all it compares is height and weight, not what that weight is composed of.
the percentage of body fat is how much fat is stored in your body versus your weight. if you are seeing it on one of those scales it likely isnt close anyway. the methods that can actually figure you body fat percentage are costly and time consuming. those impedence scales usually arent very accurate at all.
Its not the same thing. Google for a BMI calculator and input your height and weight. It may be close but they are two different things
No. BMI = weight (kg) divided by height squared (meters squared). This has nothing to do with percentage body fat. Someone who only uses BMI will tell an extremely lean bodybuilder that he is obese.
Here is an article about measuring body composition:

No, BMI (Body Mass Index) is used to predict future cardiovascular disease. It does not take into account your body fat%. It only uses your height and weight. At 22% your bosy fat is in the "fitness" category, great job!
Hi! Nope, it isn't. You could have a low BMI but most of your weight could be fat. Or a high BMI but most of your weight is muscle (like athletes). Body fat % is how much fat your body has, where as BMI is your general height/weight healthy range calculation. You can figure it out here: http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/bmicalc.
Hope I helped clear things out xx
