Tips on losing weight?

Question:
I want to lose 20-30 lbs before November for a vacation and my birthday but I need tips. I know the exercise but can you help me on what to eat and what else to do. I weight like 130lbs and am almost 5'2. I'm 16.

Answers:
Stick to about 1,200 calories a day.

Instead of counting calories though, maybe you could just start eating healthier stuff and going for walks. Exercise is the best way. Don't eat any junk food, and if you must, try eating sugar free chocolate pudding or something better for you. There's a big difference between saturated fats and healthy fats. You do need some fat but not from processed foods and empty calories.

What are empty calories? Donuts, chips, any pastries are very bad, all that stuff.

Try eating several small meals a day which consist of 1 protein and 1 vegetable and you will lose a lot of weight. Also try lifting very light weights and doing high reps for 10 minutes a day. OR -- if you're up for it and want even faster results, for 3 minutes a day do SPRINTS! That will burn up the calories faster than you can imagine (even while you're sleeping!) and you will have a great figure by November. Good luck with your fitness goals, it's good that you see you have a problem and you're doing something to change it.
Well all you really need to do is pump up your water intake to 70-80 ounces a day, spreading it evenly throughout the days.

When you first wake up, drink 8 ounces of hot water with the juice of half a lemon. This is great for cleansing your system.

Eat breakfast everyday. Oatmeal (no sugar, just a little skim milk) with a banana is good. Or two egg whites and one egg scrambled or however you like it. You can add turkey or ham sliced to it.

Lunch- salad (spinach and lettace with cucumbers or anything you like) with grilled chicken, light balsamic vinegrette or apple cider vinagar as your dressing, and some feta cheese if you like. Also you can crunch up a Wasa cracker if you want some crunch.

4 pm- have either a piece of fruit, Or Dannon light and fit yogurt with some almonds in it.

Dinner- Have some meat/fish, tomatos, green beans or brocolli, salad if you like. and some fruit.

Dont eat past 7:30

Exercise- Either do 30 minutes at 3.5 with a 5 incline on the tredmil, or if you have no tredmil, then you can just jog up and down the steps for 20-30 minutes. (everyday)

Well you can i guess. don't use pills. and there's no reason to go on a diet. i mean sure- don't eat patatoe chips everyday. i find that golden rod pretzels are very good. i myself love salty foods... so i snack on pretzels and pre-popped (healthy) popcorn from the Nugget (a grocery store). also, try your sandwich on peda bread- it's super good. just use the regular things you put on a sandwich but put it in a peda pocket. or try wheat bread. you can also - like when you what in line somewhere or standing for a long time- just suck your stomache in for 20 or 30 -slow counted seconds. and that's equal to 1 crunch. also. instead of sitting on ur computer or watching tv... go outside- take a walk- GO TO THE MALL LOL, dance around your room, go mini golfing. anything to get you off your butt
but really? your best bet is to excerice. it's the best. just when you wake up in the morning do 15 or 20 -however many you can do sit ups or push ups. it helps. it really does. i go for a 4 mile run at least 3 times a week.
The cookie diet
Ok listen. 1st you want to get in the habit of eating 5-6 SMALL meals a day. this will jump start your metabolism for the entire day. in oreder to lose weight you must burn more calories than you take in. So you got to get your cardio in. try to do some form of cardio at least 3 times per week since you are a beginner. i would say monday ,wed, and friday. and you rest the other days. Also drink lots of water at least 10 8 ounce cups a day. This will flush out toxins and make you pee and deficate more so your stomach will be more flatter and also of course you will be more hydrated. Also try to increase your consumption of proteins as this will also help you lose weight.
special k cereal diet

cardio/resistance training 4-5 days a week
Eat light and not before bed.
I know everyone says "drink more water" but it really does help. Drinking lukewarm water before a meal or snack or anytime you're hungry and probably shouldn't be.. helps hunger pangs go away. And cold water is definitely good as well. It makes the body work to warm up the water you put in. And drinking hot water with lemon is also very good for you. Don't worry about it too much, go weeks before checking the scale. It truly does slow you down getting depressed about a number not going down. Eat only when you're hungry, and eat SLOWLY. You'll get full sooner. Good luck. Don't beat yourself up over it.
Try to limit yourself to around 1200 calories a day.

You don't have to starve, just find healthy options that are high in fiber and protein so they'll be filling.

Some of my favorites:
1) Light and Fit yogurt/smoothies - great for a quick snack, delicious, come in tons of flavors, and are only 60 calories with 5 g of protein and no fat/low sugar.
2) Soy crisps. Glenda's are my favorite, they taste better than chips and are 140 calories a bag with 10 g of protein.
3) Lean Cuisines/Smart Ones/Kashi/South Beach Diet frozen meals/desserts. They have tons of options for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and desserts and all are tasty and low in calories, high in protein and fiber.
4) Kashi Go Lean cereal. It's yummy and is low calorie, great for mixing in yogurt.
5) Try Light silk instead of milk. It's loaded with omega3's, is high in protein, and has way less calories than normal milk.

Some other quick tips:
1) Stop drinking soda. That will eliminate several hundred calories of empty sugar from your daily intake, which will result in you losing several pounds.
2) Stick with water. If you stay well hydrated, your metabolism works much better.
3) Use Splenda instead of sugar.

Best of luck!
My advise to you is to Walk, run, jog, jump robe, cycle. All these on an empty stomach in the morning because the stored carbs in your muscles from over night will be breaking and being used when you exercise in the morning. Do not lift weight until you lose at least 10 LBS. Eat no more than 1200 Calorie a day. And you will be just fine and lose the fat. Patience is important as well.
20 Ways to Lose Weight

1. Take it one step at a time

Start by paying attention to what you eat. Cut back on fat and sweets and add more fruit and vegetables. After you have that under control, add exercise. If you hate to exercise try it for only 15 minutes a day at first, then a 1/2-hour. Keep in mind that while you are exercising you are burning calories and not eating. Also, it will be easier if you chose an activity that you enjoy.

2. Find a friend

It is always good to have support when you are trying to lose weight. Find a friend who wants to lose weight and compare notes, weigh-in together and maybe even have a contest.

3. Use weights

Working out weights will build muscle and raise your metabolism so you will burn more calories. Also, muscle takes up less space than fat so you will be smaller ( but probably weigh more).

4. Eat fewer carbs

Don't eat as much bread and pasta and you will see a difference.

5. Set a goal

Set a deadline to lose the weight and write it down. For example, ' By Dec 14/04 I will weigh 150 lbs or less'. Put it somewhere you will see it daily.

6. Give up soda

If you drink a soda or 2 a day you are adding empty calories. If you find it hard to stop completely, cut back at first and drink water instead.

7. Grill or boil

Avoid fried meat, grill and use lots of spices. You will get used to it and probably enjoy it more.

8. Don't buy junk food

When you go shopping, don't go on an empty stomach and you will be less likely to buy junk food. Keep your home 'junk food free' so you won't be tempted to indulge.

9. Eat breakfast

Consume most of your calories early in the day and always eat breakfast. Don't eat after 8pm and not only will you avoid those added calories but you will sleep better.

10. Give yourself a treat

When you tell yourself that you can't have something you want it more. Give yourself a treat once a day ( ie. half a cookie) and you won't feel you are missing out.

11. Use smaller plates

Trick yourself into believing that you are eating more by using a smaller plate.

12. Drink lots of water

Drink water when you are feeling hungry and you will get that 'full' feeling.

13. Don't eat everything on your plate

Many times we eat just because it's there. Pay attention to when you have had enough.

14. Eat five or six meals a day

Eating more frequently will keep you from getting too hungry.

15. Plan your workout sessions

Write your workout sessions in your journal or planner.

16. Stay away from fad diets

Fad diets don't work. If you lose weight fast chances are that you will gain it back ( and more) just as fast. It takes time to put it on and time to take it off.

17. Do several workouts a day

While you are watching TV do crunches and leg lifts.

18. Measure your food

If you decide to have junk food for a snack - be sure to measure and control what you eat.

19. Keep pre-cut vegetables

...and ward off those cravings.

20. Create Good Habits

It is a known fact that when we do something twenty-one times it becomes a habit. Create good eating habits.
