Yes i have done it but I use Realplayer, the new Realplayer has a thing where you can download videos from the internet and i download vids. from Youtube. Let me know if you have any questions.

Download mozilla firefox and the video downloader. Then go to videolan.com and download VLC media player. That's all you need.
You don't have to save it as .flv, you can just type .wmv after the file name and it will automatically save as a wmv, which can be played on Windows Media Player.
