Spice Consumption and Increased Risk of Cancer?

Question:
Recently, I was talking with someone about my love for spicy food. My friend told me that consuming too much of certain spices had been linked with an increased risk of stomach cancer.

My friend conceded what I've generally read about spices and health -- that certain spices have health benefits and help fight cancer -- but warned that excessive consumption of "some spices" can actually increase risk of cancer. Is this true? I tried finding info online, but whenever I search the terms "spice" and "cancer" I only found lists of the health benefits of spices. Has anyone heard of a danger associated with excessive consumption of certain spices?

Answers:
I know there are some that are questionable. File (can't eat my gumbo without it!) is considered one because sassafras is one. I consider this an herb, but some people call it a spice. Anyway, there are some others like that but they are considered okay in the U.S. because the bad stuff is supposed to be taken out before it's sold.
I can't see how
No that is not true, spices are good for you and can do no harm unless you have an allergy. As far as I know there is no natural food that can cause cancer. Natural food that is, unless you are talking chemicals.
