Weighing 500 pounds is not okay. It's terrible for someone's health and they can have all sorts of problems. But, if someone does get to that point, it's very difficult to lose weight. The metabolism slows way down, and a person can almost starve and not lose weight. This isn't true of all very heavy people, of course. Some of them do really eat 18 hot dogs at once! You use Monique as an example...and I think that people who are really heavy need to feel good about themselves - and this is kind of a new way of thinking - "fat pride" - and it's okay because people should feel good about themselves (what's inside is really what matters). Plus, if you do want to change, you won't be able to do it if you hate yourself - you have to feel positive about yourself. The difference between being very overweight and using drugs or smoking is that you get overweight by eating too much food (which is something you need to live)...you don't need foreign substances like nicotine or recreational drugs in your system.
Obese people don't consciously choose to be overweight - but people who smoke and use drugs make the choice (and it's a bad one).
