Running vs. Cycling?

Cobra is right. The real thing is better. And that isn't even a personal opinion. Running on a treadmill has t be on an angle of like 3% grade to be as affective as running on a flat surface. It's just the mechanics of running. Biking is better in the real thing too. Think about it. Actually riding requires balance (which takes more muscles than you might think) and your upper body gets a work out too. But mixing the two is great. You're working different muscles. Running probably burns more calories but the variety of muscle use will be more efficient in the long run. Chang is good for your workout. But if you can do the real thing, get out and hit the pavement. It's better for the environment too.
Have fun.
use both about 50-50. running would probably make you more tired, but then it depends at what level you exercise. but you should seriously use both; biking is great cross training and will help rest your running muscles. try alternating them every other day :)
You should really do a bit of both, that is the most effective because you are working all of your muscles and are going to burn more calories by doing that. It is not good to stick to one exercise because your body ends up getting use to that exercise and you don't get as good of a work out.
when it comes to treadmill, actuall running is better, as for bike machine riding a real bike is better.. get outside and sweat it up..your muscles will thank you
The best machine to use is the one that you'll actually use...not just "visualize".
Either will give you a good workout if you make the effort. One advantage of the bicycle (or an elliptical machiine) is less pounding on your knees and ankles. Not so obvious when you're young, but old bones don't like to get beat up. The pounding adds nothing to your workout..
Keep hitting the gym, watch your diet (healthy foods, and no "supersizing") and good luck on your fitness program!!
Running gets you in shape quickest, but cycling is good too! I would suggest doing both!
The best machine to use is the one that you enjoy doing. If you hate running, you will not stick with your workout. Indoor cycling classes are a lot of fun and are a great workout (I am an instructor myself, I know). On the other hand, running or walking are both great full body exercises. If you enjoy both, alternate your machine day to day and you will see better results.
runnign is going to be the best for you, and the fastest, but running is bad for your joints if you do it too much! so i would split the running and biking in half and do both the same day. instead of biking one daya nd runnign the other b/c then you are working all the muscles that you would work every other day in the same day!
