Its not fun to jog alone.Although ur on jog with ur Mp3, it still make you bored kindda. Strt ur jog with ur family or friends, make it an habbit, it would be fun^^ Trust me.
think of how good you will look after you get in shape.
Just motivate yourself by listing all the reasons why you need to start jogging. Also, try to find a jogging buddy perhaps, or get a cool MP3 player that you can take jogging with you.

Try getting an MP3 player and take it with you. Choose a place that you feel safe and comfotable or bring a friend. Start slow - don't expect too much in the begining and then gradually increase you time / distance - eventually you will feel at peace jogging and it will become time for just yourself to focus inward. You may want to start out by walking a little each day. It's possible that once you start that you will feel yourself wanting to work your way up to jogging. If you don't, well, walking is still a fantastic form of exercise. Have faith and confidence in yourself. You're brave enough. I hate to use the Nike commercial, but JUST DO IT! You'll feel great.

Swimming has less impact, but it might be harder to get to a pool. I would say that you promise yourself a reward after finishing a jog, and also a punishment if you don't go out and do it.
by this question i'm assuming you think you are overweight.
you can do it in the morning so not at many people are out...or get an i pod or mp3 player to distract you (it aslo helps me run for longer)
if you are worried about what people are thinking; you really shouldnt do what you need to do to improve yourself and get into shape

agree with the first poster, walk first. then if you feel like it then jog later. but statistically you can get a better and more healthful workout from powerwalking getting your heartrate into the aerobic zone. jogging murders your joints specifically your knees. whether walking or jogging invest in a good set of shoes made for the purpose, itll save you alot of pain and injury.
IPOD!! my fat @ss got one with all the music i love and it takes up alot of time,,.,.,.,. get a song list of your favs that will play for at least 45mins - 1 hr. and you'll know how long you excerised
you don't have to jog off the back, start walking at a nice park or speed walk as long as you sweat your good
my wife is a Marine and when she feels that she's getting lazy she will tell me to drop her off 3 miles from the house and she'll run home
proper jogging is slower than a fast walk...
you did not state the reason for your fear, however
start with short distance..you should feel when you finish jogging like you wish you had done more...if you feel exhausted and just want to sit, you went too far or too fast.

jogging will mess up your back. exercise bike is better. people who get into jogging turn into blithering idiots. do be one of those douchebags that jogs in place when they come to a stop light.

All you need is music in your ears (Ipod, mp3 player ect..) and get the jogging going.
The iPod is awesome, I can't run with out it. when I run it's my "me time" and I zone out and day dream. Mostly though I just picture me in a cute little jean mini skirt.. motivation!
Just start doing it even if it's only a few blocks at a time then walk for 30 seconds and start again.
