kc,
No, not at all. Oh, you fell off your diet for one day, but so what? It's not a bad thing under these circumstances, and you probably won't see much of a difference in your weight tomorrow.
Now, may I ask a question (since this isn't IM you can't say "no," can you?): Do I conclude aright by believing that you are in just a little bit of psychological danger, here?
I mean, you seem just a bit, well, desperate about all this that I am a little concerned. I think that you are dieting for the wrong reason, whatever it is.
You see, you're not relaxed and happy about having lost weight. Instead, you're worried that you might not have lost "enough" or that you're going to gain back a little of the weight you've already lost, as if that's going to be dangerous or fatal.
It isn't. The sun will rise tomorrow and you can put yourself back on the proper eating plan and proceed as if you never fell off the wagon at all.
When it comes to the proper diet, there's always tomorrow, so don't worry about it.
OK, so let's talk weight loss. 5 pounds in 6 days is not a lot of real weight. It's mostly water. So you can expect it to fluctuate a bit from day to day and not be a steady downhill slope. In weight loss, Aesop was right, "slow and steady wins the race." You will have lost a pound or maybe two of weight that won't come back when you have a glass of water, but that's all right. Weight loss and weight control is not a sprint. It's a marathon, and like a marathon it takes discipilne and patience.
You know that marathoners have been known to stumble and fall and get up and finish the race? You can, too.
I hope that you're doing this to be healthy and not to be thin. I hope that you are exercising to become fit and not to be thin. Be gentle with yourself and lose weight slowly an steadily.
How are you eating? Are you eating from all the food groups? Are you taking time to enjoy your meals? Are you joking with the others at the table with you? Are you relaxed, knowing that you're becoming more healthy and that your life is going to be better because of the good that you are doing yourself?
Take it easy, KC, your weight is not your life, the reading on your scale is not the tale of your worth. You will lose weight, and along the way the occasional party off your diet is simply like a vacation. Have fun when you do it, knowing that tomorrow you'll be back on the diet, but today you had fun.
You'll be fine.
its VERY dangerous to lose five lbs in six days. A healthy weight to lose per week is only two.
If you are really good tomorrow and work out a little extra, you will be fine.
don't give up just b/c you messed up. Dont worry about what is already done. put it behind you and move on. keep doing what you were doing before!
ps-what were you doing? 5 lbs is 6 days? Thats great!
Probably not. But did you like gorge yourself? Don't ever starve yourself. There is a balance girl.
If you've been "dieting" for a week and lost 5 lbs in 6 days, you can be sure some of that was water weight so don't get TOO excited.
A pound a day is too fast sugar...1 - 4 lbs per week is the max recommended to lose, with a high chance of keeping it off long term when you hit your goal.
Eating "badly" today may slow you down, but it didn't "mess up" anything because all you need to do is get back on a healthy eating plan and stick with it...
Don't "diet" but eat healthy and well-balanced meals all the time...make it a lifestyle change...add to that about 1 hour of exercise at least 5 days a week, and you'll be on your way to a healthy you!
Good luck!
get back to dieting, but make it slightly less intense; one screw up does not really matter if you get right back to dieting
keep going on your diet.
yes you will probably see an increase in your weight gain but don't give up.
also, when you've lost a sufficient amount of weight start eating more and more again slowly. don't just start eating like normal again.
(this last comment is if you're eating once a day or if you're going to stop exercising or something)
This is common. Called sliding back.
I am on low carb, low fat, high fibre, high protein and a hour brisk walk 5 times a week. On this lifestyle, when I slide back a day or two, I am generally ok. But I have to stay on this lifestyle to stay slim.
I have lost 31lbs/14kg and gained better health. I am now maintaining my 108lbs/49kg for more than a year, with more fruits and complex carbs.
Details such as my experience, meals, recipes, foods to buy, reading labels, walking as an exercise and to shape the body etc etc, are in my blog.
