The BMI is not about being thin and not having fat reserve.
You may have a healthy BMI and still have a fat back, a fat butt, a fat tummy and man boobs like you said you have. A little fat will not hurt you much, will not shorten your life span, give you diabete or a heart attack.
When you get to be so big that your BMI is not healthy anymore, when you become overweight (which for you would be at 165lbs) or obese, then you should start worrying about your health.
As far as looking good, that’s another matter. With your height of 5’8’’, you will have a healthy BMI if you weigh between 125lbs and 160lbs. At 125lbs, you would be thin and at 160lbs, you would not…but still be healthy. If you’re 156lbs, then you are not thin and you do not seem to be very athletic so you must have a lot of fat reserve that you should replace with muscle mass. You could weigh the same but have a lot of muscles and since muscle mass takes one third less space than fat reserve, you would be much thinner.
You could lose 30lbs of fat reserve (the fat on your back, tummy, butt and chest) and then gain some pounds of muscle mass and you would look just fine without your body being covered in useless fat reserves. Also, if you gain muscle mass, your metabolism will get higher so you will be able to eat whatever you want and use all the calories.
I guess your back problem comes from having to carry around those extra 30lbs of weight that you do not really need and you can never put that load down when you’re tired.
You seem to be afraid of dieting. Forget about the word “diet”, just concentrate on eating healthy. Eat what you need but not more so you stop making fat reserve. Do not eat less that what you need or your body will just adapt to a low calorie diet which is not good. Educate yourself about nutrition and calories so you will know why you should avoid fast food and eat whole wheat stuff…
Do low cardios which are fat burning exercising (walking/jogging is great), as long as you need to burn those extra fat reserve of yours. Get some muscles by doing strength training and weight training so your metabolism will get higher.
Just get moving. Start slow and easy and after about two months you will just go for a jog, for the sheer pleasure of it…
Walking is the third best exersise
it is easy and affordable
Have you considered counseling to help you with your body image? You are correct that your BMI is just fine at that height and weight. You are NOT fat. You need to be aware that most movie stars and fashion models today are extremely underweight, to the point of emaciation. They may be anorexic or bulemic, they may be starving themselves to maintain these figures that you see everyday. These bodies are not healthy, especially on a still-maturing 13-year-old body. If you try to achieve this look for yourself, you will injure your health, possibly doing permanent damage to your body. At 156, with a normal BMI, you are still slimmer than the vast majority of the women in this country. Take pride in your curves; 200 years ago, you would have been a supermodel yourself.
If you are able to do sit-ups that will help tighten those tummy muscles.
A brisk walk daily would also be good for weight loss and a bad back.
If your back is keeping you from walking I would suggest water therapy. Walking in a heated pool is very good excerise and it is easier on the back.
You are too young to afraid of all these things. A slight bulkiness is a real beauty. But for your age, join in any good sports activity like foot ball, basket ball, tennis or any thing, whatever you are interested in. Exercise, walking, jogging are all for a little old people. But you can do skipping. Read the following site that contains so many tips on how to maintain the height and weight ratio.
ok, well, you're going to have to diet in some way ... you probably have back problems because of your weight ...
start swimming, as it is a very low impact sport, and burns lots of calories.
after that, start biking.
I would not recommend running, because if you aren't in tip-top shape, you can/will injure your knees and back.
as for the diet, don't eat lots of sugar ...
drink lots of water and 1% milk, as both are very filling.
and stay away from greasy foods ...
At your age, you probably still have some baby fat. There really isn't anything that you can do about that until your hormones change...which WILL happen.
Meanwhile...try smaller portions of sweets (cake, pie, etc), and more fish, leafy vegetables, broccoli and cauliflower. Drink LOTS of water--skip the stuff with bubbles, skip the sports drinks, lemonade, coffee, tea...skip anything that comes in a can. Drink a gallon of water everyday, preferably more. Drink fruit juice diluted with water, and drink 1% or 2% milk (not skim or whole). Try pushups, situps, and walking or jogging.
Cut artificial sweeteners COMPLETELY out of your diet.
Get enough sleep.
Every week...take one day where you do NONE of the above EXCEPT get enough sleep.
Start doing all of this now, and when your body changes are complete, you'll be in the habit and will build a body to be proud of.
I've had back problems for over 3 years and I'm 14 years old...I went to the doctor because it got hard to walk and they sent me to physical therapy. They taught me special exercises that would strengthen my lower back muscles. You can try getting an exercise ball, putting it under you and doing crunches. After you strengthen those muscles you can start walking and jogging and you'll for sure start looking thinner. If you want to go the extra steps, cut your food into smaller portions. You can still eat what you want but in small amounts.Try cutting out sugar (fruits have natural sugar which is easy to burn off) and drinking only water.Hope this helps!!
My draughter is just a little older then you are and I tell her what I'm about to tell you...Just be a teen and don't worry so much about your weight because your still growing. Just do like you said eat healthier. With your back problems just ask you Doctor what type of exercises you can do that will not harm your back worster, I'm sure he or she will be able to answer that question alot better then I can.
