Here is what you need to remember: There are 3500 calories in each pound of fat.So in order to lose a pound, you need to eat that many calories less.

So work out how many calories you generally eat in a day (keep a food long for a week of two) and then just work out how to cut about 3500-7000 calories off your weekly consumption of food. This will cause you to lose 1-2 pounds a week, which is the safe amount of weight to lose per week.

Remember to drink lots of water and cut down on your salt intake, because you will drop a lot of water weight that way.

Five pounds is not that much and you can likely lose it pretty easily.
Don't count the calories. Drink 6-8 glasses of water a day. Since your an athlete, eat a balance diet in moderation and do physical exercise and workouts in the gym every other day. Best of all, have regular bowel movement almost everyday by drinking Chinese tea(bags) with senna. You will not only loose 5 lbs but will keep you fit and healthy too. Don't forget to visit your doctor for consultation whether you shall undergo an executive panel for thorough check up inside and out.
