Has anyone tried the fruit and vegetable diet?
Question:
Answers:
Eating just fruits and vegetables is not the same thing as being a vegetarian. Vegetarians also eat grains, nuts, beans, dairy, eggs, and processed foods made from these things that allow for just as much variety as meat-eaters get.
Eating ONLY fruits and vegetables isn't a very good idea. Your body needs protein to function properly, which fruits and vegetables don't have much of. You can get protein from meat (including poultry and fish), beans, nuts, eggs, and dairy. You'd also have a difficult time getting enough calcium, unless you drank a lot of calcium-fortified juices.
Going on a special diet for a limited amount of time is not the most effective or the healthiest way to lose weight. If you want to lose weight and keep it off, instead of gaining it all right back, you need to make long-term healthy food decisions. Eat a variety of healthy foods, in reasonable portions, and save things like fried foods and desserts for special occasions. If you drink alcohol, you should do so in moderation as it also contains more calories than you might expect.
No, but it's called be a vegetarian, sounds gross to me.
Gross maybe, but effective. You can lose weight without ever being hungry. You need to incorporate in your diet whole grains, and sources of protein. A good source for information is found at www.drmirkin.com
Actually, it's not vegetarian--though that diet would be vegetarian, the more specific, correct term is 'vegan' as I'm sure you know because vegetarians (like me!) eat dairy. I think the diet is wise but must be approached with lots of knowledge and caution--see a dietitian to find out how you can do that, as every person is different and requires a different diet. Hope if helps! Good luck!
