Amount of calories your body readily burns?

I'm 17 years old and according to adjectives the charts i am about 50 -60 pounds overweight. I enjoy been overweight since the third order, and it is taking a toll on my body, my joints to be exact, so i am immediately on a self imposed diet. but I have some question? I read somewhere that your organs burn 500 to 600 calories a day to preserve your body going/ is this true, shouldn't i factor that into the amount of calories i burn a day? Next, exercise, my friend said that she loved her consignment by doing a 100 sit ups everyday after dinner. I didn't think that be a lot of exercise but she have lossed 50 lbs. anyway, i would just appreciate the tips. Thank you

Answers:    I deduce you are talking something like RMR, Resting Metabolic Rate. You can check it at this website:

But this is just a guideline, because it does not whip your health condition and actual metabolism rate into consideration.

As for 100 sit-ups per hours of daylight for weight-loss, it's not logical. Your friend probably lost weight due to a silver in her diet. Losing substance is due to burning of calories is higher than the intake. For 100 sit-ups, if truth be told you don't burn much calories, probably not even 20kcal. You need to do cardio for weightiness loss. For your info, burning 3500kcal contribute to a pound lost.
