Motivation?

dogs are a lot of work so I don't reccomend one just for excercising but my dog has gotten my butt up early and walking at least 30 minutes a day five days a week. It's great because I feel too gulity to not walk her. My alarm clock goes off and I feel like hitting snooze and then I get licked on my feet and open my eyes to this cute little face that is like "let's go let's go!" When I started out I walked slowly...just getting used to waking up early. Then I would run about 1/4 of a mile (about mid way through the walk) and would keep this up for a week. Then every week or two I up the milage a 1/4 of a mile (keeping the time the same, just going further). It's been slow but thats good (I go every day and can't get so sore I need to recover). My dog will be with me for a long time and I hope eventually we can run the whole time.
I LOVE this now. It was so hard at first but now it's my favorite time of the day. It's time to myself with my dog. When I get to work I'm awake! Plus just like when you eat something bad and think "well I've screwed this day I might as well eat what I want and diet tomarrow" after working out in the morning I eat better all day because "I've done this good so far may as well keep it up"
For sure do it in the morning. There are too many excuses and stresses to work out after work. Besides the temp is cooler, the air is crisper, and it's less crowded!
I exercise before I go to work. About 1/2 hour after I wake up. If I had to exercise after work I would never do it. To much time all day to talk myself out of it.
I know your thinking you don't have time in the morning, but believe me if you can get in the habit of getting up a little earlier to do it, you will actually become obsessed with it. It kick starts your day.
If not try going to a gym or something on your way home from work. Once you get home your done.
You have to make ypour self go! After while is like a drug. than, you will want to go.No mather how tired you are is going to make you feel so much better! Bring some good music with you and have a goal!
Here's what I do to motivate myself, and I'm training for a marathon while working full time, going to school, and a single parent of 2 kids and one has serious health issues. If I do what I have always done (not work out) I will get the same result I always got (not being in shape). Therefor, I have decided it is more important to have a killer body, wear size 4 and run a marathon than to sit on my butt and watch TV. Plus, I find I have a better mood and would rather be outside, hot or not.
Get naked and look in the mirror! it motivates me!
Buy some DVD/VHS exercise routines.
I have Windsor Pilate's. That way you stay home and can avoid the heat or cold in winter!
That's a really hard question to answer, just because each different person will develop their own way of motivation differently.
Personally, I use treats and rewards as motivation. I also commonly look at how well I've done something or how well I'm doing in it to motivate me to keep going on it. I've also used music to help motivate me and keep me thinking positively.
I had a job where I was selling door to door and getting a LOT of rejection, and those are what helped me get through each day without letting the bad stuff get to me as much. That being said, I also had already developed a "thick skin" earlier in life (when I was picked on a lot), so I didn't pay attention as much to negative things.
I also know of people that have used certain statements (either said out loud or written down in a notebook that they read) to help push themselves or think positively. That never worked for me, but everyone has to figure out what works best for them.
What helps for most people that I've noticed especially for depression is to evaluate the feelings, verbally name them, and then try to remember the good things that are happening. A lot of people that haven't done this before get a lot of help from a counselor... a person who will listen and help you to evaluate your feelings.
I don't know if you thought about mornings or not.
You get a fresh start, its cooler until the sun comes out.
Try taking a walk/run, when you get up. A park would be ideal because the trees will shade you and keep you cool.
Also, when you get finished working, take a walk to cool off and unwind from the day. The evening is great because it is also cooler.
If you change your mindset about exercise being more work, and look at the other aspects of it. An energy-giving start your day, and relaxation to finish it. Thats pretty motivating to anyone in this day and age.
Hope this helps you get going.
