What should I do first, weight machines, or cardio machines?
Question:
Answers:
I always do cardio first, simply because I don't want to fatique my muscles before I run. I'm too tired to finish my 30 minute jog if I've already weight trained. I don't know what is best in regards to losing weight the fastest, but to me doing cardio first is more practical.
i do weights, cardio, then stretch
Cardio machines for sure. This will get your heart pumping and kick start you metabolism. You can sustain the benifits with resistance training.
Cardio first, then weights, reason is that your heart rate will be up so you'll be doing more for yourself when you do the weights. That's what my personal trainer said at 24hr fitness.
I always do 5 to 15 minutes of cardio before doing weights to warm up my muscles and get into my target heart rate. If I want to add more cardio than 5-15 minutes, I tack on the extra minutes at the end of my workout.
This is a great question and I'm curious to see others' answers.
Cardio first, it doesn't wear you out entirely but boosts your metabolism and then you can do weight training.
If you do it the other way around, you might be too tired to run for as long as you would like to. I've tried it both ways and cardio first is proven to be better.
My trainer from 24HourFitness taught me to warm up on a cardio machine for 5-10 minutes... then do weights, then cardio.
The main benefit to lifting weights before performing cardiovascular exercise is to maximize your ability to maintain and/or build lean muscle tissue.
If you do cardio first, you are more likely to lose lean muscle tissue and lack the strength necessary to build muscle. In other words, you are too tired to get a sufficient resistance workout to actually build your muscles.
However, one positive to performing cardio prior to weight training is EPOC (Excess Postexercise Oxygen Consumption). What this means is that you burn more total calories following the exercise session.
Nonetheless, in my opinion and that of most experts who value metabolism, it’s important to keep building lean body mass for improved health and longevity.
Swap them round. For 2 weeks start with cardio, finish with weights. For 2 weeks start with weights and finish with cardio, and for 2 weeks start with cardio, do your weights, then finish with a bit more cardio. Basically, you will keep your body guessing and it won't get used to any one specific workout. And you will get the best possible results.
