Improve mile time fast?

Question:
I've been at a 6-week camp all summer for science. We worked out maybe 2-3 days a week, if that; but I had to walk to classes which averaged probably about 3 miles a day, not including afternoon activities, so it wasn't just a lazy summer. HOWEVER.. I got back about a week ago and have been working out (running, squats, lunges, etc) like crazy because soccer TRY-OUTS are NEXT week! To make varsity, we have to run 7 laps (2 3/4 mi) in 12 mins. I ran last night, my 7 lap times was around 14:30. I don't think I was running my hardest, though. Do you have any ideas of how to improve that time in a week? Aerobic conditiong, sprints?? Nutrition advice? etc?

Answers:
Practice as much as you can. Do Sprint intervals of 30 seconds every 5 minutes. but for the last 2 days rest.
eat all the fruit (good carbs) you want. and rest.
by resting 2 days you'll let your muscles (and lungs) repair the hypothrophy and will be ready to have a max performance in your tryout.

almost forgot, dont eat heavy stuff like pizza and fatty things. try to eat mostly grains and fresh fruit. you'll eat like crazy but its allright, your body needs all that fiber and carbs
Get alot of rest, dont eat heavy stuff before your run, and just run like hell. If you got an Ipod it helps you focus on something else other than your breathing. Keep a brisk pace and always inhale deeply through your nose before you begin sprinting. Throw in as many sprints as you possibly can and you can do it.
improving your mile time is harder than it sounds...you can train and train and i sometimes only goes down about 10-15 seconds...sometimes you just need to really focus on what you want ( to be on varsity) and run as hard as you can..just think about this...if your life depended on it and you had to run under 12 mins, would you be able to do it...you prolly would..so if you want it enough, run like hell because you can keep on running and you wont die so good luck
