Ok, it's me again... push ups part 3?

Question:
does it matter that i have my knees on the floor when i do the push ups? remember, i'm in a wheelchair so i don't have much stength in my legs. or does my posture have to be stiff in the knees?

Answers:
It matters and it doesn't. Hope that clears things up.

It will certainly be easier to do a pushup with your knees on the ground. However, for some people it would be pointless to have them up. If you are not very strong and might be able to struggle through one "normal" pushup, you'll get a better workout doing 10 pushups with your knees on the ground.

A few things you can do to make them more effective with your knees on the ground:

1)Vary your hand positions...do so many with your hands normal, then do them with your hands quite wide, then do them with your hands touching. That way you'll emphasize different muscles.

2) Slow down. If you take three or four seconds to go up (and I don't mean go up fast and rest for a few seconds, I mean a slow and STEADY push up that takes several seconds) and then go down at the same rate, you will increase the effectiveness.

3) Keep your chest muscles tight. Through the whole exercise, "squeeze" your pecs.
No, it doesn't. You are describing what I've heard referred to as 'girl push-ups'. These will help strengthen your upper arms.
You have a good reason so no.
