Why is 1000 calories a day unhealthy?

Question:
Most YouQA.com ers says that it's unhealthy to have under 1200 calories a day because the body will go into starvation mode. But i think that some ppl dont need that many calories. IE ur weight is proportional to your daily calorie intake. Like for example if I weigh 130 pounds, I definitely can survive on just 1000 calories a day. Maybe anything below 1000 will be ridiculous. What do you think?

Answers:
It isn't. People are just so strange, thinking that 1000 calories equals an 'anorexic diet' because it doesn't. I mean, I usually eat around 500 calories a day (less if I can help it) and I cheat often and eat about 1000...and yeah, I'm underweight, but not significantly so. And I'm definitely not anorexic nor do I have any other eating disorder, so...I dunno. 1000 isn't bad. It is actually sort of high. We americans are just used to consuming a lot.

And nutritionists are oftentimes full of...ahh...poo...because notice this--how many nutritionists are fat? A lot of them. So what the heck do they know?
1000 calories a day for more than 2-3 weeks WILL put you into starvation mode. You will loose muscle mass. Sure, you can survive on it, but your metabolism will be terrible!
BTW, Weight Watchers and similar long-term diets prescribe a balanced diet around 1500-1600 calories a day.
because you are burning calories with not even doing anything and if your calories go to negative from all the energy you are spending it will put you in starvation mode.

i take 5000 calories a day and burn all of them..
You could survive fine...but you metabolism would slow down, and you would actually start to gain weight.
Anything under 1200 calories does not give you body enough nutrition to work properly. Yes you can survive on under 1200 calories but you body won't work properly and you won't get the proper nutrition your body needs.
You can survive with any good amount of calories, because humans can survive about 20 days without food but with water. But, unless you're living on a deserted island, you don't need to be "surviving." If you're younger, about 1900 calories a day will help you stay growing and healthy. If you're older, maybe about 1500.
B/C it takes more thn tht for ur body to function in just daily activities. Much less if you do anything in the way of exercise!
i think you have to have at least 2000cals per day, but you need to go to a doc to learn you bmi i think it's called so youlll know what's proper for you
Girl, 1000 Calories would definitely not be enough.
unless you are overweight and need to loose weight you should eat enough calories to keep you healthy not just out of starvation mode. and the difference between 1000 and 1200 is like an apple. at this point you are just sacrificing things you need to stay healthy and energized. I'd say at 130 pounds eat the damn apple!! and don't worry so much about the number of calories you eat. like i said unless you need to loose weight just make sure you eat a healthy variety.
