I am afraid this is a very dangerous management and few ethical surgeons carry it out on the NHS. However there are sometimes other factors that induce surgeons to carry it out privately, often as many as 7000 reasons. ( Average cost at least £7000!)
It is still possible to find an odd NHS practitioner to carry out the surgery, but not generally until the patient has also had formal psychological assessment.
The last patient of mine to seek this procedure was deemed unsuitable by the NHS, against the advice of one surgeon and myself, she had the procedure carried out privately. I am afraid she almost died on the table and the band had to be removed.
