toning you are building up your muscle but not like a body builder building up muscle though. if you are toning you would most likely not lose weight...you may lose body fat and build up your lean body mass because of it...but since muscle weights more then fat you most likely will not lose weight.

Toning means you do exercises that makes you skin and muscles taut, while losing weight is aimed at getting rid of fat. Losing weight is best coupled with toning, because it doesn't matter how much weight you lose, if you have lose bumpy skin or cellulite, you aren't going to look as good as someone with taut skin.
