BRAT diet: Apples instead of applesauce?

Question:
Can apples be substituted for applesauce in the BRAT (Bananas Rice Applesauce Toast) diet? What makes applesauce "better"?
I love peanut butter and apples, is peanut butter a food to avoid if i want a firmer stool?

Answers:
Apples are actually better, because they contain pectin. For a small child, you can grate the apple, so it is easier to eat and less of a choke risk. Applesauce is often listed in this diet, because it is easier to keep a jar of applesauce in a pantry than to count on having fresh apples when needed.
Peanut butter is fine, within reason. A portion of about 2 tablespoons shouldn't give you a problem.
Add note: I pulled this answer back for editing, after reading other responses. Please note that this is a diarrhea diet. It is only used for a very short time, until the problem is resolved. If it is not resolved in 24-48 hours, consult a physician. All items are used in small quantities; no item should be eaten in enough quantities to make you sicker! Hope this helps.
This does not sound like a healthy diet to be following.
I do NOT recommend eating apples instead of apple sauce.
I was sick, a couple of weeks ago... and apples... well,... they landed me in the hospital. Way to acidic. Apple sauce is.. diluted, I guess.
A brat diet is used to give an easy on the stomach diet so low fiber. So an apple would be ok but no peel! As for peanut butter it is relatively low in fiber only 2grams per serving. So if your doctor told you a specific amount of fiber you can incorporate this into your diet.
