My brother and his wife both had the procedure. She lost all of her excess weight (about 130 pounds). He lost over 100 pounds, but it was no where near all of his goal (He was over 450 pounds) and he didn't work at it as hard as his wife, so he has plateaued.
You are discouraged from drinking alcohol...especially in the first few weeks and months of the surgery. Eventually, you can have a little, but you need to be very careful, because you can get drunk VERY easily and VERY quickly.
A friend of mine had this done and it was successful but she couldn't drink alcohol. I moves into your system quicker and I think it stays longer. The one time she decided she was going to do it anyways, she ended up in the ER.

remember that alcohol beverages are still full of calories. If you drink too many EVEN WITH A GASTRIC BAND you'll get fat!
